  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in the employment taxes team, as well as the share plans and incentives team. My role involves internal, administrative tasks such as completing our onboarding risk procedures for clients, including drafting the required documents and obtaining audit approval to confirm that we can indeed act for the client. I

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have become much more skilled in using Excel, as well as with developing my communication skills, both written and verbal, through my experiences of dealing with clients. I have become more confident in speaking to clients, and I have developed my skills in dealing with colleagues, such as by preparing briefs for senior colleagues.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the programme as it enables me to work whilst I am also studying towards a qualification. I am gaining experience of working in the professional services industry, and I enjoy working in such a role where I can deal with clients. I am learning both on the job and through my studies.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme at BDO is very well structured. For example, I am provided with generous amounts of taught courses, in preparation for the exams, and I am given time out of work to attend these courses. I am also provided with study leave prior to sitting the exams, which is helpful.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my employer. For example, they provide regular feedback and give me lots of opportunities to ask questions. I have regular conversations with my people manager and the partner in my team which allows me to be honest about how I feel I am progressing.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive some support from my training provider. We have regular calls to discuss my progress. The tuition provider is also helpful as I can benefit from using an online forum, as well as being able to email the tutors any queries I have in relation to the revision questions.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification is highly important in enabling me to perform better in my role. My increasing knowledge of tax, which I am gaining through studying towards the ATT/CTA, means that I have more knowledge which applies to my job. This means I am able to better understand my work.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are lots of extra curricular activities. For example, there are social events such as last week to celebrate the coronation. There are social outings on a monthly basis for the whole office. There is a chance to participate in sports events for charity on occasion, such as participating in cycling.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Everybody is very friendly here at BDO. There are lots of opportunities to speak to lots of people, of all ages and job roles which allows you to speak to people across the firm, regardless of their level. There are lots of opportunities to progress within the firm, and it's a great place to work.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BDO?
  • I would advise that you research all of the different teams that there are at BDO, as there are so many different areas that you can work in. This will ensure that you are aware of the vast array of work that BDO are involved in, and I would recommend that you get stuck in!
