My role involves completing CAD models and drawing changes. Conversing with the team to see what tasks are needed to be completed that week. We also have weekly check-in meetings to discuss upcoming projects.
I have developed my CAD skills as well as improving on my maths and physics that I did for A-level. I have learnt how to manage my time in order to get tasks done.
I enjoy the programme quite a lot as it gives a good mix of practical as well as computer work. Doing a degree along side it also allows me to put what I have learnt into practice.
The programme is organized okay, we have a clear overview of what we will be doing in the next 5 years with opportunity to change our rotations depending on what we enjoy. However being one of the first years to do it there are a few weak points.
We receive a lot of support from our employer. For example we are giving time to study/ revise if we have upcoming exams at college. There is also lots of help available if we get stuck on tasks at work.
We receive some support from our training provider when working towards our qualifications. The lecturers are always available via teams. However sometimes it feels like there could be more done to help us especially during difficult topics.
I feel my qualification helps me to perform well within my role as it gives me a better understanding of the theory behind the tasks I am completing in my role.
There are lots of volunteering opportunities at work to get involved with. There are also sporting events organized by work. Sometimes there are also networking events or seminars that we have the opportunity to go to.
Yes
There is a good atmosphere within the office as help is always readily available. The fact that you get a degree whilst being paid will also greatly benefit your career as well as allow you to enjoy the time spent doing it. GE also provide a lot of support.
Make sure you do your research into the company, for example, it's history and learn what the product does and why it is so successful. Spend time preparing notes for the interview and make sure you have experiences to prove certain qualities like leadership and teamwork.
