  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Retail day is going to be spent inventorying, setting up end caps, cleaning up displays, ringing up sales on a typical cash register, and cleaning. Responsibilities will vary depending upon type of retail outlet, but by and large you won’t be engaging your higher intellect unless someone in management lets you express your views on something like scheduling or advertising (which is highly unlikely).

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt retail skills that enable me to work for a the company productivity and give great services. The abilities can be technical, which refer to specific processes that you perform to complete tasks in the workplace. I have also learned soft skills, which enhance the ways you approach your job.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my time working at New Look. They are a good place to have your first job as most of the staff are on their first job as well, and you will be supported by them and it tends to mean you have people to relate to and that makes a good experience.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is well structured.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a good amount of support. My supervisor has had experience before in having apprentices and people in the shop around me are ex apprentices from the same course. I can message them and ask them questions about different areas of the course and that helps a lot.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I get given 7 hours a week of coursework time. This should be split into 2 hours a day, however it is hard to get off the floor for that long if we are understaffed.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that I have a better understanding of what is asked of me and I know that if I do well with my apprenticeship, you move up in the company and this gives me motivation to keep going to get the qualifications.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Not that I know of, we spend time together outside of work and if we are in the break room together, we will always have a chat, we try and have work dinners as well.

  • 9a. Would you recommend New look to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It has been a good first job and gives opportunities if you are willing to work for them so I would recommend it to a friend if they are looking for a good place to work.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to New look?
  • Be yourself and get used to being stood up. New Look and any retail you can be on ur feet for 5+ hours at a time and this can be without breaks or leaving the shop floor which is hard to get used to at the start, so I would start standing more before starting.
