  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a second year apprentice my day-to-day job varies, some examples of this could be attending different breakdowns that occur on the line to help the maintenance teams, this could also be refurbishing machines or parts. There are also apprentice projects that I often take part in. As well as this, once a week I also have a college day where I develop my skills in the classroom.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • When I started the apprenticeship almost two years ago, I had a range of prior engineering knowledge, this was from studying engineering at school before I joined. During the apprenticeship, I have built on these skills as well as developing new ones. One example of these new skills is the ability to work with control systems, as well as many more.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I greatly enjoy the apprenticeship. There are a few different reasons for this. One of these is that I have a passion for the job. But it also makes it more enjoyable as the programme has a good structure. Another thing that I enjoy about the apprenticeship is the variation within the job.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel that the programme is well structured. One reason for this is that we rotated around different technologies in second year. Within these placements, there was structured paper work that needed to be completed. This helped structure the placements.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • A good amount of support is given to us by our employer. This includes meetings that check on our progress throughout the apprenticeship. In these meetings we have the chance to raise any issues that we have had. We can also raise any issues that occur to our managers with an email and they will always support us.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • An okay amount of support is given to us by our training provider when working towards our qualification. This includes help from tutors when it is needed. We also have the ability to contact them with the use of Teams or email if needed. Although some of the content that we learn is fully self taught.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that the content that we learn in our qualification is relevant to our jobs and will help to build up the knowledge that we need when in our final placements. Some examples of this is the electronics unit that we covered in our qualification. This will help us work on electrical systems.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are a few extra activities that take place within the job. Some of these are within the job. These could be helping out at recruitment fairs or other activities that are similar, like helping to give plant tours. But we also get involved in charity events. These include sporting tournaments and quizzes.
