  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • In the first year of my apprenticeship I have spent the entirety of my time in a workshop learning environment where I have had the opportunity to develop my practical skills in many disciplines such as Welding, Hydraulics, Electronics, and many more.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Many of the skills I have developed have been new to me upon starting my apprenticeship, however I have been able to gain a vast range of knowledge and workshop abilities due to the amount of exposure and support I have experienced from my mentors.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy being able to develop my abilities and experience all facets of the business within a purely learning environment. This has allowed me to build confidence, grow my network, and expand on my understanding of wider company needs and requirements.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • After recently expanding the apprenticeship there has been a great deal of coordination required to facilitate a larger group. Despite this, I have been presented with a clear plan of my apprenticeship detailing the structure and what I can expect from my job role.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have had a great deal of support from my employer when outlining issues or approaching them with any questions. I have been presented with many opportunities and attend a bi-weekly meeting that allows me to maintain frequent contact with senior managers.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have access to a range of support guides including documents and study books via an online library. As I am based in the Apprentice Training School for my first year I have great access to my tutors who are always willing to assist me.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I have been able to apply my theoretical knowledge gained to my role in many cases. For example, when learning electronics in the workshop I was studying the applications of Norton's and Superposition theorem in college, allowing me to apply both theoretical and practical fundamentals to the workplace.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I have been able to participate in the Charity Champions scheme, a group of apprentices that work on planning and holding fundraising events and opportunities to raise money for charity groups. I have also been able attend exciting networking events where I was able to meet and present to senior directors of the company.

  • Yes

  • BMW Group offers a fantastic apprenticeship scheme, allowing me to gain a valued qualification with no student debt while also offering a very competitive salary. Coupled with great support from staff and the amazing opportunities the company provides, I am always motivated to achieve and give my best efforts.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group?
  • I would always do my research, gaining as much knowledge of the company as well as the industry as possible. It is also important to ensure and show that you are passionate about your role and are eager to achieve.
