  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role consists of opening the shop count tills, refilling the ATM machine, recording all freezer and fridge temperatures. It can also involve creating a jobs list and accepting deliveries when they arrive.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, I have learnt a lot since starting this course. I have learnt more about discrimination and communication and certain sectors businesses fall into and it has also helped me understand the company I work for in depth. It has just been amazing for me to learn as much as I have.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well organised and structured. My work is planned out, so I know what I need to do and when I need to do it by.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I do receive help. When I ask for it, I get shown new things that I need to know. I get taught whilst I work which is a huge bonus. It is good that I can use my learning and put it into practice when I work with my bosses support.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I get a lot of support. There is always someone available to speak to if I need something. I get newsletters and offers and reminders so there are always opportunities there if I need them.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It helps massively as they help you understand what else is included in your role even though you might not realise it. My qualification allows me to communicate with customers better and helps me manage my team and be more efficient. My boss has noticed an improvement in my performance already since starting this course.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • No, we have no events happening. The staff sometimes arrange a night out or something like a drink and a meal, but normally nothing happens unless we win something at work and then the company rewards us with vouchers to go out as a reward for the good work and goals we have achieved.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Poundland to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because I personally think it is a good place to work and can be really flexible under the right circumstances.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Poundland?
  • Try and stay flexible for work hours and take as many hours as you can. Also have fun along the way. Just remember to work at the same time. Do not be late for shifts and always try and learn whilst on the job and you could progress like I did.
