  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role involves working with various stakeholders across the Marketing, Mortgages and Intermediary teams as well as other areas of the business to effectively communicate with customers and brokers about our purpose, propositions, products and more. I particularly focus on digital areas, such as social media and web, as well as management of industry events across a busy annual schedule.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned new skills and developed these as well as existing skills across multiple areas such as project/time management, event management, digital skills (social media and web) and stakeholder communication. Coming in with very little expertise in the area of marketing was always going to be a challenge but also coming into the mortgage industry was extremely challenging but also exciting as I developed my awareness of the industry and the different propositions and products out there. I am still learning new things every day but have massively expanded my knowledge and skills required in the industry.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy my programme as I have the full exposure any other employee would receive partnered with any level of support I require. This has allowed me to grow more than I ever imagined as well as develop my skills and knowledge across my workplace whilst building a network around me. I am thrilled by what I have achieved so far and excited for what is still to come.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is extremely well structure with me having structured training weeks and deadlines on reports which can be adjusted if needed and allow plenty of time to complete any reports around other work priorities at any one time. I also have complete flexibility for the time I spend on apprenticeship reports and tasks, whether I choose to do it bit by bit or block out time to get it done in one go I have the freedom to choose.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • To put it simply, I receive as much support as I feel I need. I take the lead on my workload and can pushback where needed and ask for more support if needed too. With regular check-ins with my line manager and the Early talent team, I am able to update them on my priorities and deadlines as well as request any help I may need along the way.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Similarly to with my employer, I receive as much support as I deem necessary. Throughout my training sessions and workshops, all training/learning is explained in great detail and extra support always offered. I am also regularly in touch with various members of the team at Baltic (training provider) when I have questions or need some extra support. They always get back to me quickly and offer all the advice I need in an extremely supportive manner.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that my qualification helps me to perform beyond my role. This is due to me learning all the relevant skills/ knowledge and behaviours I might need for my role and some that aren't applicable to my role but are transferrable / may help me in the future. On top of this, my qualification has highlighted opportunities for efficiencies in my role and supported me to develop and improve my work.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I am involved in many extra-curricular activities at work such as lunch clubs, colleague voice teams, technology and cyber security forums as well as many more. I am also often involved in the logistics and arrangement of wider team or business activities beyond mortgages/marketing. This has allowed me to grow personally whilst building a network and developing my skills such as communication.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Newcastle Building Society to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I have previously recommended NBS to many friends and family members as well as people I have just met or seen looking for a new role online. The main reason for this is due it having such a friendly and purpose-led culture that is seen in everything NSB does, internally and eternally. The employee benefits are amazing too. I could not have asked for a more supportive workplace.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Newcastle Building Society?
  • I would truly say just to be yourself as the culture here is so friendly and led on people and purpose. NBS will let you be your true self and let you try things you may never have got the opportunity too otherwise with chances to volunteer in different places alongside your colleagues and customers being a prime example of this.
