  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a team leader on the IT service desk, Looking after a of 16 with 8 directly reporting to me. I am a point of contact for escalation on the desk, helping run the desk on a day to day basis whilst managing team performance using KPI figures set by the business.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt Multiple new skills whilst on my apprenticeship and also expended on skills of which I already had. New skills mainly learnt were around project management and budgeting, whereas I expended my people skills with the likes of unconscious bias, development of my staff and how to deal with difficult situations.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Although stressful at times whilst trying to balance my Job and my apprenticeship course, I thoroughly enjoyed my programme. My coach was an absolute start and a pleasure to work with whilst on my course given me help when needed and always there for me. My course mates were also a pleasure to work with

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The course was well structured and outlined using the tools like google classroom. Calendar invites were always sent out in advance for notices of learning sessions or when work was due. The course itself was laid out at the beginning to get a good understanding of what we were going to be learning over the year. Monthly and tri monthly catch ups with my coach also helped be stay focused and organised.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • As much as I could ask for and more. My manager was always on hand to help with my course and give me time to complete work whenever i needed it. The apprenticeship team were always on hand as well to help me with nay issues I may have encountered during the course.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Same as the previous question: As much as I could ask for and more. The apprenticeship team were always on hand as well to help me with nay issues I may have encountered during the course. they were always willing to help and were knowledgeable enough to know exactly what they were talking about even if i didn't at times.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel with what I have learnt throughout my course I am performing better in all aspects and more. With what i have learnt i am now able to fully do my role without second guessing if I am doing it right. I am more confident in making decisions and also have a better understand of not only my personal impact but the impact i can make to the business as well.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is always something going on within Travis Perkins. Whether its a small team outing or event, a department event or even a company wide event, each week you can count on something happening which is fun and gets everyone involved where possible. From sports days, to baking activities, to nights outs and awards events. TP Has it all.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I joined Travis Perkins nearly 6 years ago now and I have never experienced a work place like it. The sens of feeling and family within this business is so unreal I could never imagine leaving. They really do make their values clear and follow through with them on a daily basis


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Travis Perkins Plc?
  • As part of out values, one of the things we strive to it; Be you, its what makes us, us. No matter who you are, what your background is, there is something for you here at Travis Perkins and you will always be welcomed with open arms. Although sometimes it can be busy and stressful, we always band together ot get stuff done and no one will ever be singled out.
