  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a Key Account Manager and I am responsible for looking after all existing customers. We provide hygienically clean food crates to produce suppliers who fill them with produce to send to their customers. My role involves making sure they receive the correct amount of crates at the expected time on an ad-hoc or regular basis.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes I have learned about planning myself and my time. I've learned how to delegate and how to plan my workload according to Covey's Matrix. It helps me to prioritise what is the most important task down to the least important. I can also plan a project from beginning to end using all the relevant project management tools I have learned about.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have enjoyed it a lot although working through Covid was a challenge as it meant I was unable to attend sites when I needed to in order to carry out my mock project proposal and everything had to be learned "remotely" which I felt may have been better in some instances if we were face to face - however this is not a reflection on my training provider as this could not be helped

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It was well structured although some of the attachments were a little out of date and had been superseded by others but the originals had not been removed. I felt there could have been more clarity on the versions being used (even if it was just on the colour of the font/paper) to be absolutely clear which revision aids related to mock project proposal and which related to actual project

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I've received a lot of support from my employer both in moral support, educational support and also allowing me to move my workload around to fit the course into my daily working schedule. One of the challenges for me personally was that we changed MDs, Sales Directors and Ops Directors within the company during my learning which meant they had not been with me for the whole of the journey, but their support was there.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I received the right amount of support and found my training provider to be very flexible if I needed to change a study period for any reason. I also had to study towards my Maths qualification and this lady was excellent and very patient - all in all I can't fault either of my tutors, they were wonderful

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Structuring my daily workload is second nature to me now and I feel more organised. I also feel that the project management tools help me to see the bigger picture and re-focussing on my management styles has allowed me to understand my team better and my delegation skills are much stronger

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes there are plenty of things to get involved in outside of work. I am actually attending a professional networking event tomorrow night with my sales director which is the first time I've done one of these where it totally relates to our industry. It's called Meat Business Women

  • 9a. Would you recommend PHS Group to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • They are an equal opportunities employer with many different divisions. There is something to interest everyone from a sales perspective, an operations point of view or even admin or call centre work. They offer lots of flexibility and offer blended working from home which suits many people. All the divisions are different and the products they supply are different so there are lots of different roles to attract a diverse range of skill sets

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PHS Group?
  • Research all the divisions as there is a lot ore to PHS than just the Hygiene Division. There are several specialist divisions and all are very different from each other. Do some research and contact people who work there through LinkedIn so that you can chat things through before applying - I always thought that working for a large corporation would make me feel lost in the numbers but I really enjoy my job and I'm very happy to recommend PHS to anyone.
