  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Learning different skills everyday. Working in a team environment to complete the job in hand. I may do do different jobs that require me to test a component electrically using a multimeter or I may need to do clean and inspectsomething like an electrical harness for any damage it could have.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many new skills so far, working in a team is a big one as you are always working with and in around other people. I have also learned basic hand tool skills that allow me to use screwdrivers, ratchets and spanners efficiently which I did not know before.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly have enjoyed the program so far, more than I thought I would. I have met new people which has improved my social life massively. Additionally, I have further increased my knowledge in engineering and aviation which I was looking to do in the first place. Also, I have gained a level 3 qualification from the college course which is great also.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel like because of the pandemic and COVID, the apprentices have been affected a lot by this. Firstly, we had second hand overalls from retired workers and then we have not had a lot of stuff sorted out for us like lockers on section and knowing where to go in the factory.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I received a lot of support from my employer throughout my apprenticeship so far. Anytime I need help I can ask anyone in the factory and most are willing to help and if they cannot help they will point you in the right direction so you can sort the problem out.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have a great amount of support from my training provider when working towards my qualifications. Anytime I need a piece of advice or help I can always message my college tutors and ask any type of questions. The amount of support I have had towards my college work has been outstanding.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel like my qualification allows me to perform in a better role because it gives me more experience towards the actual job I do from day to day. It has allowed me to gain a greater understanding of tooling and equipment that I did not have before I started the apprenticeship.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yeah there is. Throughout my time so far there have been many extra-curricular activities that I could have applied for and participated in. These things were running the Cardiff half marathon and applying to either marshal or walk one of the three peaks with a group of people in work.

  • 9a. Would you recommend GE Aerospace to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend this apprenticeship to a friend because I have learned plenty of skills that will transfer into everyday life. Teamwork and hand skills have massively improved and I have met a lot of different people throughout the apprenticeship. I have also learned massive amounts of engineering throughout my time in college.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to GE Aerospace?
  • The tips I would give to others when applying to GE Aviation is to revise and make sure that your maths, physics and engineering knowledge is up to standard. Then make sure you can work inside a team setting but also can work as an individual to complete a task.
