So far, its just college based so I just have to study and complete all assessments that I'm issued and prepair for all of the upcoming exams. There is a wide variety of topics that we cover which makes each day very interesting and different to the day before.
Yes, I have learned a lot of new skills and improved on the skills that I already knew. For example, I learned how to fit electrical sockets, lights wire junction boxes and how to connect a data cable to the data cable plug. I have also improved my soldering abilities.
I thoroughly enjoy this program as the topics that we cover are very varied and can be very interesting. It is quite stressful though as there are end of year exams and a lot of assignments that we needed to complete or study for to prepair. Overall I am enjoying the programme
The program is very structured and organised as we are in classes with people from other apprenticeship programmes who will be going somewhere else in the 2nd year. There are end of year exams and assignments throughout the course so we need to remember everything that we have been taught
We all receive a lot of support from the employers as we can choose to have extra lessons in topics that we don't understand and are able to ask the tutors for help on circain topics. Since it's the first year, we have only really had contact with the employers in the college
We all receive a lot of support from the training providers when working towards our qualifications as we can choose to have extra lessons in topics that we don't understand and are able to ask the tutors for help on circain topics. We can also ask each other for help
I think that my qualifications will be beneficial to the role as I had already completed and AS level for engineering, physics and maths so I had a very basic understanding of the work that I had to do before we got to it which was very helpful to me.
There aren't any extra curriclar activities in the collage but occasionally there are some events like a band was playing at lunch and there was an event where people who spoke Welsh could get together and speak Welsh but there are not any clubs or groups in the college
Yes
GE is a huge company and being able to do this apprenticeship programme will teach them a lot more than they'll learn on a general electrical engineering course as it's more focused on what they'll be doing. Another reason is that after getting into GE you can be transfered to other countries too.
Make sure that you're ready to the amount of work that you need to do as there is a lot in the first year which feels like a just compared to A levels. Other than that it's just college for the first year so revise for all of the exams and assignments.
