  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • In my role I tend to be involved in various line-side breakdowns where I will be working with a qualified maintenance engineer on different bits of kit and machinery to keep it up and running. I will spend the other portion of my day completing planned maintenance tasks where I make sure any equipment not currently in use is up to date and in good working order.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I absolutely have developed a wide range of new skills and improved on already existing ones as well. I have been able to make better use of my engineering ability and my skills when it comes to electrical engineering have been enhanced greatly by being out on plant and learning on the go.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy coming in to my workplace now to continue with my programme. I find the day to day work interesting and often each day is different, the surrounding people are helpful and create a good working environment to enjoy. One bit I enjoy less however tends to be days completing my Foundation Degree.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme has become increasingly better structured over the past year by huge amounts, by changing old outdated paper systems for updated ones including the use of one-drive and share point throughout various plants and interlinking them this has made the organization much much better, and the structure works perfectly now also by not spending too much time on each area.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer is always around to help out should I ever need it. With bi-weekly consistent meetings as well as extremely approachable and friendly managers the support I receive is top notch and I never have had any issues with it. Whether it is inside or outside of working hours I can contact my manager and I very rarely do not hear back quickly.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider give me more than the basic level of support to achieve my qualifications. Whilst always making sure to help out with certain parts of the course and some members of staff going above and beyond there are some structural issues and some that are harder to rectify when it comes to achieving the foundation degree.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I don't feel my qualification really enhance how I perform when completing my job. There are some basic bits of knowledge that help that I have learned from my training provider however overall I would say that the majority of improved performance in my role comes from trial and error in the plant itself.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are various extra-curricular activities to take part in at work including a wide range of different events etc... Although I do not take part too much in the social ones, professional networking events and even helping on recruitment days has always been good to get involved with and we always get rewarded for it also.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BMW Group to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I feel it offers very good apprenticeships with competitive salaries, huge benefits and a caring workforce. I have in fact recommended the apprenticeship to 3 of my friends who have applied two years running, and both times all three of them have been disheartened by not managing to secure there place however due to my recommendations they do keep attempting.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group?
  • Always be honest throughout the whole process, be presentable and be well communicated both formally and informally and be able to decipher when to communicate in one way or the other. Show drive and willingness to learn as well as interest in what you are being told. This is one of the key qualities in my opinion.
