  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in audit, essentially working with different clients to ensure that their financial statements are a fair representation of the company. I work with different teams and on different areas. On a daily basis I work with my team on the areas I have been assigned and often communicate with the client.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a lot of new skills throughout the job. Many of the skills are audit specific and during placement I have been able to develop on the skills I learnt during my last placement but also learn a lot of new ones and work on different areas of the audit. I have also learnt a lot of interpersonal skills and developed my organisational skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme. I think that it is a really good blend of working and getting that experience as well as also being at university. You get to put what you have learnt at uni into practice and it definitely helps going back to university as you can apply what you have learnt to your studies as it is easier to picture it in practice.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is really well structured. I like that you are able to work for a few months and then go back to university - it's nice that you aren't away for a whole year so still get to experience both aspects or work and uni each year. It is also very organised and there is always support available.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There is lots of support from the PwC. They are always open to listen to any concerns and help with any issues. We each have a manager/career coach but are also assigned a buddy which means there is always someone to go to for support or to answer questions. We also have our team members and peers who we can get support from.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We are doing our exams at university at the moment but we get a lot of support form the university. They guide us with studying and ensure we get the right support and are on track. We get guidance and are given lots of practice questions so that we can be prepared.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The work we do at university is put into practice. Our modules include accounting, audit and tax which are all very relevant to the work we are doing and often makes it a lot easier to understand what we are working on as we have the background knowledge and have learnt it at uni.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are social activities at work. There are weekly events with your social group which is open to everyone to go to but there are also organised events which are good fun! I have been on some team meals as well and a lot of teams do social activities too.

  • 9a. Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I think PwC is a great company to work at. There is so much to get involved in and so many opportunities. You get to meet a lot of people all from different places in the world which is fascinating. There is a really good atmosphere in the office and everyone is really friendly.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
  • In applying to the company just be yourself and draw upon your experiences to show how you demonstrate the skills that a company like PwC will be looking for. Go into the process feeling confident in your achievements and experiences and that should get you far in the process. Be prepared for different types of questions too.
