  • Being responsible for the overall running of the business, ensuring that everything runs smoothly and that customers and my colleagues are safe and happy. To ensure that company policies and procedures are adhered to and that we all work well together as a team. I cash up and ensure that stock counts are accurate and up to date, as well as ensuring that thefts or issues are reported appropriately. I also coach my team to be the best they can possibly be.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Absolutely! From doing retail team leader level 3 course, this has helped me to consider the ways in which my team works together, the things my business does to support this, and the ways in which I can continue to support encourage and motivate my team more. This course has also helped me to consider the ways in which I might speak to people and has helped me to improve this. Also, it has helped me to realise that I may be a role model for my team and to be able to maintain and display my professionalism for others to learn from this too.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Very much. I have learnt so many new things that help me to understand the business that I work in more and the ways in which I can help and support others. It has helped me to identify my own management style and has allowed me to see the benefits of this within my team. Through this I have been able to celebrate the success of my team and of each individual and build strong and positive professional relationship with everyone.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well. I am really enjoying the challenges that my course is setting me and am enjoying working within the timeframe set for me, as well as enjoying the course I am on. I feel that if I was given more time on the sections then I wouldn't feel as challenged and wouldn't necessarily apply myself as much.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I feel extremely supported from my managers. They always answer any of the questions that I have thoroughly, and allow me to print out things whenever needed so that I can read them at home and understand them more. I feel that I can ask questions whenever needed or ask for feedback on some of the work I have produced and receive honest answers, as well as being encouraged to improve wherever I can.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive lots of support from my training provider. I know that if I have any queries or don't understand something then I can ask or email my coach and they will get back to me. Similarly, if I have any questions then I know that I can call up lifetime learning and ask and that they'll be very friendly and helpful.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Within my role I hope to continue to improve as better never stops. I feel that from my qualification I have challenged a lot of the things that I may have done previously and tried to improve from this. In conversations with my managers, I have said that I wanted them to feel that I was always improving or attempting to by learning from both my course and from the actions and things I do and being able to reflect upon these.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are upcoming charity and fundraising events that I could get involved with as well as online forums. In all honesty, we create our own activities and meet up at the pub normally to socialize more. Other than this, I'm not necessarily aware of any other extra curricular activities that may be available.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Poundland to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I enjoy shopping at Poundland. I believe that some of the things available are cheap and that you can't get the same Value and items elsewhere. I regularly recommend the clothing and frozen foods as well as other favourite products to my friends and family. I also actively upsell or recommend items to customers as well, especially if I have had positive experiences with them.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Poundland?
  • Adding a covering letter really does make your CV stand out. Everyone likes to be nosey, so being able to write something about yourself and create your own positive first impression is really important and a positive thing to do. Other than that I'd say to be yourself so that you feel more comfortable.
