  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Answering queries, uploading work related information, checking people's pay is pulling correctly for the upcoming pay run, chasing missing information to ensure we capture as much as possible. Processing Maternity & Paternity leave requests, sending out relevant letters and documents. Processing ROI Payroll and answering queries from stores and colleagues.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • My Payroll knowledge has come on a lot since having started the apprenticeship - I now have a better knowledge behind statutory payments for Child Related leave, along with the calculations which are required to be used in order to establish if an employee is eligible for pay through the business.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I do enjoy the program, more than when I attended college. It is more relaxed, and you are able to juggle the topics around so you can complete certain assignments and modules based on tasks which you are covering within your job role. It is helpful to be able to relate the topics to work life to make it easier to complete the tasks on my own.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The course is very well structured - the assignments are based off what time you have available - so if you are in a busy period with work, they are understanding and do not expect you to complete longer tasks with a shorter deadline. the topics are adaptable, so you can change the order of topics to make what your job role and responsibilities currently are at work.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my employer - if I am unsure on a task, then they will sit with me and go through what is been asked, along with what information I would need to include. They allow me to use quiet periods to complete the tasks - such as if there is work being carried out on software and we cannot access the system, I am able to use this time to do my coursework, which allows me to ask for help if required.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The tutor is very helpful in enabling me to complete the tasks required. Each session, we will cover off a PowerPoint which related to the new topic of assignment. I will then receive a PowerPoint which outlines the tasks and what is required in the assignment, along with a core handbook which includes relevant information on the topics, which can be useful when it comes to completing the tasks and using for reference.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel, by completing this course, it allows me to understand Payroll better - the laws and regulations, along with calculations which may be used. I can then use what i learn, to complete tasks at work, as well as using my knowledge from work, to complete the tasks. I also have resources which I can look back on if required.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We have a mental health team and an LGBT Group. These groups are for support and being there across the business. We hold a Christmas Party each year, for the whole business to attend. Currently, the business are holding a 5k run/walk, in order to raise money for the charities which we work with, and this is open for people across the business to join in.

  • Poundland is a brilliant company to work for - the atmosphere is great and you are able to have a laugh whilst at work. The people within the business are friendly and very integrates between the departments. There are great opportunities to progress your career, and the support is there from management to help you along the way.

  • Be yourself. But also, be certain the job your applying for is right for you. The people who work within the stores are lovely and always there to help. And the people within CSC are amazing people to be around. If you don't take the chance, you will never know what is round the corner.
