  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • my role is within the special care dental service. I take care of the administrative side of the business. this involves creating spreadsheets that keep track of our IV and IS clinics to ensure that all patients are seen within an acceptable time frame. i am also in charge of helping the reception team with recalls to ensure these are seen in a methodical way.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • i have developed many new skills within my job role. I have now gained experience with using the NHS database which can help me in jobs across the NHS. I have also developed my project management skills and have undertaken many new projects on different scales. it has also given me an insight into how different areas of the NHS work

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have really enjoyed my time with the programme. the team at the clinic have been wonderful to me and have made me feel at ease from the moment i begun. i have also loved working for the NHS and it feels that i can talk to the management team easily.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • the overall structure of the course is well thought out. the induction was good and im glad they really took the time to get us inducted. the support from both the college and the trust has been really positive and have felt that way through out the programme. having at least one day a week to concentrate one my studying has been good too.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • as mentioned previously the support i have received from my employer has been amazing through out the course of the programme. my line manager has been wonderful and has fully supported me with tasks and ensuring i have plenty of time to learn. the accessibility of support within the trust has been good and i know where to go to find out more information.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • i have received a lot of support from the training provider to help ensure i gain the qualifications. my tutor is always on hand when i need her and makes sure that i have all the support i need. my tutor ensures that i have access to support whenever i require it.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • what i learn helps me tremendously with my day to day role. i have manage to use a lot of the skills learnt on my course in my every day work and have out many theories into practice. i definitely feel that i know more about my job and the organisation from completing my work.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • there are a lot of things to get involved in with Solent. they send out newsletter and emails inviting to many events from Yoga to networking. one i have taken part of is there step challenge where all the departments see who can achieve the most steps over a few months. it has been a lot of fun competing with my work team.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Solent NHS is an incredible organisation to work for. they are understanding to each individual need and are a caring company. they also provide a lot of opportunities for growth and help you to achieve both professional and personally goals. they also have great pay and benefits that really help with everyday life.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
  • i would advice anyone applying to Solent to give it a go. even if you don't quite have the qualifications to meet the lower bands don't be put off. a lot of Solent with help you to gain those qualifications. i would also advise people to try and get some experience in the field before hand.
