I ensure the store is fully staffed and stocked at all times whilst creating an inviting environment for customers to shop and select their products. I also keep my finger on the pulse with regards to new business, new trends and the profit and loss within the store. I keep all health and safety at the forefront of every decision I make whilst enabling my team to do their jobs to the best of their abilities.
I have learnt how to ensure my business thrives in the current climate. I have also learnt how to be a better manager and how to look at the business as a whole to ensure that all the plates keep spinning in the right way. Since this course my store have improved massively - hitting the targets set month in month out and taking the sales up by at least 25%.
I really enjoyed the environment in which I was taught. The lecturers and mentors were absolutely brilliant. The knowledge they posses as well as the patience and kindness could not be faulted. It has helped me to understand the business world a bit better and also to understand my own self more.
The structure and organisation of the programme was amazing. Even with the pandemic that came in the middle - they did not stop ensuring that all the members were given the exact same experience and taught us remotely throughout. The mentors and leaders from LEAP were exceptional in every way possible.
I received very minimal support from my employer (Tile Giant) - most of the work that I needed to do was done in my own time as I was not given the time to complete it during my working hours. I feel that they did not (and still do not) care about this course and what it could provide them as a business.
The whole team at LEAP were brilliant. They were always on hand to give support and advice. Even on their days off they would respond and give feedback or answer any questions we had. I had a number of mentors during my tenure, and each one of them was fantastic.
The qualification has enabled me to push my store to the next level and understand the workings of my business so much better. As mentioned previously - I have hit every target set to me and exceeded all expectations both personally and from the company. I only wish that the term "Cahrtered Manager" was more well known and it stood for more when looking to progress and develop in my career.
No. My company does not give the chance for anyone to network or have social events. All these are left up to the colleagues to create with no backing or support. I have since started my own networking/support group outside of my company to give me some personal growth and to help others.
Yes
Travis Perkins themselves seem to be a great company to work for and look after their teams very well. However, I am with a company owned by Travis Perkins who has since been sold off to an independent (Tile Giant) who don't care for their staff development or well being.
Ensure that you put the effort in if you want to go somewhere. The only person who is stopping you from achieving your goals is you. Take risks. Don't be afraid to ask the questions as if you don't ask, you won't get! Be yourself, and be open and honest with yourselves and others.
