Working in all areas of the branch including Sales, Warehouse, Trade Counter and Transport. As I do not have a set role in the branch as an apprentice I have had the opportunity to spend time in every department and learnt so much over the last year.
I have learnt how to be a commercial driver as part of my role in branch and learning the legal guidelines on safe loading. I have also developed my knowledge on heating and pipe supplies
I have really enjoyed learning about the business and having the opportunity to work in all departments and develop myself whilst supporting the team.
There was a clear structure to the programme, at times I found it difficult to work to the order of the different modules as naturally as things happened in my branch I have moved onto different areas to support.
My employer has been very supportive in allowing me to take the time needed to complete the programme, as also listened to my career aspirations and supported me to do additional learning throughout my journey.
I get a lot of support from the LEAP team at travis perkins rather than the training provider itself.
The qualification has been very helpful for myself as a new starter with no experience in the sector I am now working in. The apprenticeship programme has enabled me to learn and develop and I am now much more confident in the industry and my role.
We have the occasional social event, most recently go karting, and I have also had the opportunity to travel to work events and network with all levels of the business on work time.
Yes
It is a great employer that supports all colleagues to develop a career with the business and not just have a job that will stay the same. They are making great changes in terms of diversity and inclusion across the business and the wider industry.
Be yourself, Travis Perkins wants a diverse team and I do not feel that anyone needs to try and be something they are not at interview stage or in their day job to do well with the business.
