  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • The role includes four rotations. This rotation involves working with the Contract Management team and in my day - to day routine, I am working through my contracts, forecasting, reviewing forecasts, undertaking governance reviews, replying to emails, communicating and collaborating with stakeholders such as customers, contract accounts, service managers and account managers. There is also other things to be involved with in wider parts of the company e.g apart of the early careers network group.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since joining BT I have had lots of exposure to learning and developing new skills. Working with lots of colleagues I have been able to build networks and develop my communication abilities. I have have had to plan, prepare and deliver presentations and this has also helped to developed my communication and confidence. Working with a range of different stakeholders I have been able to develop and improve my stakeholder management skills and ensure I am engaging with key stakeholders where necessary.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I started in the height of the pandemic and have enjoyed every moment, they really tried to make the experience the best it could be even though we were all working from home. They is and has been so much support from the early careers team, my immediate team and other colleagues. If you need help or have any questions there is always someone ready to help you!

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is a four year scheme and is structured really well. Each year you get to move to a new rotation and try out a new experience. When starting the early careers team go through the structure and help you understand the format of the programme. The university / training provider also provide sessions to go through the structure of the degree course.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There is so much support provided from; colleagues, managers, senior managers, the early careers team and other stakeholders. When I have ever been stuck everyone is so willing to get involve and go through things with me that I have struggled to understand. There is also wider support e.g you can join networks and interact with them and gain support from them.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training provider also provides lots of support. You have a half a day lecture each week or a full day every other week, in addition there is an support session every week, a dedicated team to book meetings with to help you structure and work on your assignment. There is also a space where you can learn how to do things such as critical writing, reflection and academic reading. You are also provided with a a skills coach who catches up with you regularly to see how you are getting on.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • A lot of the theory and modules we have gone through I have seen in the work place or been able to apply in the work place. They have helped understand how projects work, how people best interact and respond to things depending on the way you say things / not say things. It has allowed me to understand how to resolve conflicts, managed stakeholders and communicate more efficiently.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are networks that you can join as a part of being an employee for example the the D&I network, LGBT network ect.. there are also events run through out the months that you can join and watch. They are also social activities for example the apprentices / grads in my office we try to go out once a month - however COVID has prevented some of these.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BT to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I have really enjoyed my experience so far and there is so much support from all my colleagues and every one is so welcoming. There are many chances to meet new people and some of the tasks I have undertaken I would have never thought I would be able to to! There is lots of chance to try new things and get involved in activities that interest you!


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • My advice would be research the company to the fullest know the values, our strategy and purpose and ask yourself how does that relate to you. Try using the STAR method in your application and interviews. This might sound cliché but be yourself as you will feel more comfortable and will perform better more than you think!
