My role at the company is a Machining Apprentice, this means I work in the manufacturing hall and swap between the various departments. This involves a wide range of interactions with people in every department ranging from design to maintenance.
During my time at Mercedes AMG HPP I have both expanded on skills I already possessed as well as learning a whole host of new skills. Each day there is something I feel I have developed and gained further knowledge in. Within the first few months I undertook several training courses such as a Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing course.
Each day at Mercedes AMG HPP is a new challenge and an opportunity to learn and develop myself. The team culture of the company is what keeps everyone working together and is a good thing to be a part of. I enjoy being challenged and seeing results on race day.
Even as an apprentice I feel largely valued by the company. Every manager I have encountered during my time here has made sure I am confident in my role and has provided ample support when asked. There are gestures made by the company that add to the experience, such as champagne on winning races and small tokens such as medals for each race won.
The start of the programme I felt was partially unorganised, this however was due to swapping college assessors and several other problems. After the initial problems however the programme has become very organised. I have emails reminding me of assessor visits and other events which means I know what I am doing months in advance.
My training provider sets a date where an assessor comes in each month to check my work and assess how I am progressing through my apprenticeship. I also have meetings with an assessor to have a general review of how things are.
I feel that I am supported really well by my employer. Each time I have asked for information or support the response has been more than helpful. The people that I have worked with at Mercedes AMG HPP are always willing to help and don't hesitate to point me in the right direction.
I live 20 minutes away from Brixworth so travelling costs are minimal. The salary covers my expenses adequately. The restaurant at Mercedes AMG HPP is priced really generously and provides good meals for a low cost.
There are several events through the year, such as a family day and a Christmas party. The people at Mercedes AMG HPP are all friendly and there are several clubs to join. There are also plenty of opportunities for social events outside of work.
Yes
Mercedes AMG HPP is a really good place to do an apprenticeship and to work at.
Just apply and see where you get. A good understanding of mechanical and engineering practices are worth reading up about to help you hit the ground running if you are successful in your application.
