  • 1. Please give an overview of what your work experience involved:
  • We watched various presentations on a variety of legal areas the the firm covers, as well as talks on areas like responsible business and environmental awareness. We also took part in several group activities and discussions, including a group exercise where we were presenting our legal argument based on a contentious issue and past case that was ruled on. We also had two tasks to complete that were based around drafting Acts and clauses.

  • 4. How well organised was your work experience?
  • My work experience was very well organised despite it being virtual this year, and it used an online platform to set out a schedule and a large variety of resources that we could use. All sessions were run very smoothly and promptly, and all staff involved were friendly and supportive of any issues that arose.

  • I learnt a great deal about company culture both from trainees at the firm and presenters who talked about the type of community activities and support that Pinsent Masons takes part in. I believe that working with the firm would be a very welcoming environment, and support is very clearly provided to everyone, with a culture of learning and co-operation encouraged.

  • 7. Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?
  • No, I was not. As it was virtual, no travel was involved at all, which limited any costs for me. It was also a four day work experience opportunity for school aged university applicants and thus there was no salary or reimbursement involved at all. This did not detract from the experience.

  • There were several Q & A sessions were we could talk to trainees and solicitors at various stages within the firm during the week. • 9a. Would you recommend Pinsent Masons to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Pinsent Masons seems to have an incredibly welcoming environment, with staff all being friendly and very open. All the activities were pitched at exactly the right level for someone who has very little to no legal experience and they provided activities that developed my legal skills and will no doubt be useful to me in the future. Each presentation was incredibly interesting and engaging.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pinsent Masons?
  • Based on what I have learnt this week, in applying to Pinsent Masons, you should show that you are a rounded individual, where the focus in not solely on academics and instead show what makes you unique to other applicants. Look at the skills lawyers use everyday and find ways to link experiences to law.
