  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Building the FTTP network on various sites, rodding and roping then cabling up to a service point such as a telegraph pole outside a property or an underground box.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I had zero experience entering this role. I have not only learnt my role but I have learnt it to a standard where I am training new starters. I am also branching out to things beyond my role that make me a better engineer

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I find the role and the programme very much enjoyable, while it is a little daunting to start the pace at which we work is productive without being too stress inducting

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well, the support we are given from surrounding teams allow us to make the most of our training, study days are timed to allow us to work on skills between sessions

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The team is extremely supportive, there are many people that can help out. Our manager allows for study days and support sessions. My mentor is particulary helpful. No question is too big, small, or stupid.

  • I receive all the support i need to complete my qualification

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • On a day to day basis we are no different from experienced engineers which is nice, the base training has helped us with our role but the sessions themselves do not as we are already doing our jobs as expected.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I believe there is a wide variety of events to take part in although I have not taken part myself

  • 9a. Would you recommend BT to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Its a fantastic company to work for. In fact 2 of my friends from my old workplace have since applied since hearing about my job. The work we do is great.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • Do it! It can seem a little full on to start but once you get into it its is worth it. Be openminded and be ready to learn.
