  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am business support for the business programme management office. I support the team in generally admin duties including desk booking, meeting set up, meeting minutes and announcements to the team. I have also supported with the teams deployment tool organising new staff and creating an induction Power point presentation

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a lot of new skills such as meeting minute taking, I had never done that before as assumed that you were to write out everything that had been said but have managed to develop my skills in this to correctly minute the important points and actions / decisions

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have really enjoyed this programme I have always wanted to work for the ministry of defence and this apprenticeship was very useful in getting me started in this role, I feel that without the apprenticeship I wouldn’t have been able to do the role as competently as I do now

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well organised and well structured, the knowledgepool website bud was very useful as it set our assignments with good timings between each one and the due dates so you were never stressed with a high amount of work to complete at once and could easily keep on top of everything

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I received a lot of support our scheme lead was always available to answer questions and was very helpful in sorting out any issues we had we also had weekly meetings with our entire cohort to keep us up to date with anything she needed to make us aware of

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I received a lot of support from my training provider as she was always available to help when needed, we also had monthly catch ups with her to talk through how well we had done and how up to date we were and address any concerns we may have had

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that without this scheme I may not have been able to do my role as competently as I can now, I am confident to do what is asked of me with little to no support due to how well this apprenticeship has set me up for my job

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes I have been involved with the princes trust million makers challenge to fundraise for the trust through my work, I also would have been helping to organise the organisations annual families day had it not been for covid, I am hopeful I can help with the next one when we can do it again

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I have had quite a few jobs previous to this and have found this the best place to work of all of the places I have been before it is a very good organisation to work for and can see myself staying with the organisation through my entire career in the future


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Defence Equipment & Support?
  • Make sure that your cv is very good as there is quite a lot of people that apply for jobs here so you want to stand out, also making sure that you are up to date with security procedures once working there as these are very important in the organisation
