  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am working within different delivery teams to learn about defence as a whole, as well as technical and soft skills to take further into my career. This can be at home or in office, or on occasional relevant site visits. Roles within placements also involve CPD and the enrolment onto a variety of different courses.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Both technical and soft skills are being developed throughout the programme. This includes communication, collaboration, presenting, and report writing, as well as articulation of thoughts and opinions. Technical skills include development in programming, problem solving on a technical level, as well as practical and cyber security of defence systems. Some of these skills I also had, and are now being developed, whilst others, like cyber, are completely new to me.

  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It has been an all-round great experience so far, both personally and professionally, that I would recommend to anyone who is up for the challenge.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Defence Equipment & Support?
  • Just be yourself, show your passion, and also your willingness to try new things and learn and develop from your mistakes. One of the biggest aspects of the apprenticeship is getting large amounts of experience in different areas to grow as a person and a professional, so anyone applying should know that and take the opportunities set out for them.
