  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a claims handler for Davies learning solutions. I handle claims and work as a team to provide excellent customer experience. I communicate with policyholders, taking incoming and making outbound calls to discuss claims and handle queries. I also communicate through incoming and outgoing emails to handle the claim.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to use CQ (the claims portal) to manage and handle claims. I have learnt how to analyse policies to determine the level of cover on any one claim. I have also developed my communication and technological skills each day. I have learnt about the insurance market.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have enjoyed learning a wide range of things and developing my knowledge to the best of my ability. I have enjoyed learning about the ever changing insurance market and the different structure and departments within insurance. I largely enjoy watching webinars and being able to visually develop my knowledge

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Since starting my apprenticeship, I have been advised on the amount of time (20%) I get pre week as 'off the job learning', this gives me time to complete all of my work in a reasonable time scale. Each month, I have a coaching session with my coach who will explain my progress and set me tasks for each month.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive good support from my employer. My team leader will allocate me the 20% off the job learning a week and will ensure I get enough time and will help me with any questions to the best of my ability. My team leader will also complete witness statements that count towards my assessments.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive excellent support from my work coach specifically. He will meet with me each month and explain everything in an easy to understand way. He is also on hand for any questions I may have when completing my work or revising for my final exams that I am required to take.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Realistically, due to working Niche, a lot of the learning is not relevant to my role. When supporting another team, the learning has helped my develop my knowledge in areas such as using loss adjusters and working with loss assessors and brokers throughout the claims process. Learning the wording of policies has also helped me in the my role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Due to joining the business in the height of the pandemic, I have not been offered any extra curricular activities due to the government guidlines. It is my understanding that the business has their own charity/foundation that they complete and offer events and fundraising in order to raise money

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend the company to a friend or family member but would not advise them to complete an apprenticeship as I feel as though my colleagues are just as much knowledgeable of the job and learn as they work, where as with the apprenticeship you have the stress of work and exams.

  • I would recommend the company to a friend or family member but would not advise them to complete an apprenticeship as I feel as though my colleagues are just as much knowledgeable of the job and learn as they work, where as with the apprenticeship you have the stress of work and exams.
