  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • This is dependent on the team your placed in. Which is the great thing about TfL. You can be project managing a large project to leading on stakeholder engagement. I am currently doing alot of communication work and external stakeholder engagement. But I have also done health and safety.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned and developed lots of skills while on this scheme. For example I now have experience managing people and internal and external stakeholders engagement. I have also improves my communication skills and time management skills. In my next placement I will improve my financial skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my programme. We have so much flexibility to control where in the business we we would like to work. This helps us to develop our careers to something we will enjoy. We also received a large amount of support completing our degree

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The first two years of my program have been very structured. However from the third and fourth year we have flexibility to structure the programme ourselves. This helps us choose very want to work and do things we are interested in. The organisation of the scheme has been very good.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Us apprentices at TFL received a large amount of support from transport for London. We're able to take study days near on deadlines and our managers are always happy to help us with our university work if we need it. I feel very supported in my role.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We received great support when working towards are qualifications. We have designated university days and I able to take additional study leave if we need. TFL also actively engages with a university to insure our education standards are high. We also get help tracking our university time.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Our training provider is very good at ensuring a proportion of our university work is is based on on our current work in the office. This can help us in many ways, one way is allowing us to better understand the work we're doing in the office.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • At transport for London there is many extracurricular activities to get involved with. For example there is a football league and many different staff networking groups. Our apprenticeship scheme also engages with different apprenticeship schemes and sets up events with them which allow us to build a better network.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Transport for London is great as supporting development and is very flexible. I doing a degree apprenticeship you are getting the best of both worlds, being work experience, a university degree and being paid. There is also many opportunities in transport for London and many different work areas.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Transport for London?
  • Some tips are give when applying to work at transport for London. Is to make sure you properly researched the company and have a good understanding of what the company stands for and does. When applying for transport for London you're given material to help you, this is helpful.
