Wood and Lacquer Apprentice Review

Being an apprentice at Rolls Royce Motor Cars you get to see first hand the production of their cars, you get to shadow experts in their fields and assist them whilst they work, they are always happy to answer your questions and walk you through their process. As an apprentice you’ll be taught the skills you need to succeed in your apprenticeship.

As someone going from being a full time college student to an apprentice I get taught new skills and develop pre existing skills everyday wether that be on site or at college, even considering I have qualifications in manufacturing and automotive engineering I still get taught things I wouldn’t know how to do prior.

Adjusting to an apprenticeship lifestyle was hard at first but I soon got used to if, I enjoy working with my team and getting to know them as I assist them in production. I enjoy the college programme extensively as it brings a nice balance to the apprenticeship, overall the program is very enjoyable

The programme is well structured, when you first come to rolls Royce you get given a time table of when you go to each department, what station you will be learning and the duration of your stay in the department, you have set days to go to work and college so they never collide.

At Rolls Royce there is a designated apprenticeship coach who you are able to go to any time you have a query, they also check up on you frequently to make sure you’re getting on well, but even without an apprenticeship coach there are plenty of people in each area who are always willing to help and support you if you need it

Chichester college provides you with an in college apprenticeship coach as well as work, they support you throughout your college life and make sure everything goes smoothly, my lecturer is also very supportive of the programme and will constantly check you are making good progress, at Chichester college it feels like you are put first when it comes to your education and your apprenticeship.

My qualification provided my training provider helps me appreciate the time and the effort that goes into the woodwork industry and producing such masterpieces, by also following instructions and advice from my college lecturer I am able to perform better at work and excel in my role as an apprentice

When you first get into Rolls Royce all the apprentice go for a week at skern lodge to get to know each other and do team building exercises, during your apprenticeship you will be set up with projects during work hours that you get to complete to further increase you skills, Rolls Royce also have a good relationship with GoodWood, so you get to partake in events such as the festival of speed.

I always favoured an apprenticeship over going to uni as I prefer a hands on education. A apprenticeship at Rolls Royce can potentially set you up for life, provided you work hard you get handed a career and top tier education, this apprenticeship was my way to a successful career and it could be the same to others,
