  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role as a maintenance engineer is to help ensure that the production lines are running the best that they can at all times. This involves attending to and helping resolve breakdowns and carrying out planned and preventative maintenance work. It is also my responsibility to make record of job I have completed and book out any parts that I have used from the stores.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since starting the apprenticeship I have learnt a lot of new skills both technical, relating specifically to my job, and general life skills. some of the technical skills I have learnt are very useful in my role as a maintenance engineer, some of these include electrical installation, overhauling of machinery and fault finding.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I would say that I thoroughly enjoy the apprenticeship program and would recommend it to any one who is interested in going into an engineering career. The program has not only allowed me to achieve my goals in perusing an engineering career but has also allowed me to develop as a person and become more independent.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I would say that the collage side of the apprenticeship is very clear and well structured making it a lot easier to work to my best ability and make higher achievements. From my personal experience I would say that the training at the workplace needs some improvement due to the fact that I feel as if i have to make arrangements for myself rather than having a clear set plan that everyone (including mentors) is aware of.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I would say that the support from my employer is good and always available when needed. In times where I have needed support the employer have provided it well weather is be from my manager or through other organisations within the company. when a problem is highlighted all that is possible is done to ensure it is resolved.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • In the first half of the first year of Btec learning the support was very good however when COVID-19 started and we changed to home learning the support was poor. I was understanding of the circumstances however after being told we would have video call classes these did not happen and there was a long wait for a reply from some tutors when i needed support leading to missing deadlines for work submissions. Despite this the online learning in the second year of Btec has been far better with plenty of support.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I would say that the training involved with the level 2 diploma (practical) has been very useful at the work place giving a basic set of skills and knowledge to develop. However only some of the subjects we have studied for the Btec have proven to be useful at the work place.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are not any extra social activities available to take part in that I know of. The apprentices from all three sites take part in a weeks residential team building course in the first year but this is all that I know of. I do however think that extra-curricular activities like this would be a good idea.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Britvic to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • i would recommend Britvic to a friend and have done so in the past as i believe they are a good company to work for. The apprenticeship scheme offers many opportunities and allows you to develop a solid career in engineering with chance of eventually moving up into higher roles.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Britvic?
  • for anyone applying to the apprenticeship i would first advise you do some research into the company and the type of work that engineers here carry out to make sure it is the type of thing you are looking for as engineering is a very broad industry. i would also advise you to be yourself, show your enthusiasm and portray reasons why you think you would be good for the role in the best way possible.
