  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As i am in the first year of my apprenticeship at Britvic i am currently based at college five days a week. Due to this I will have finished my BTEC level 2 in both mechanical and electrical as well as level 3 electrical engineering. Next year I will be based at Britvic 4 days a week working on my NVQ and then at college one day to complete my HNC.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • This year I have learnt many new skills, especially on level 2 as this is developing hand skills. For the electrical level 2 I have learnt things such as soldering in electronics to make an amplifier and radio. We have then made lighting circuits for another project within this. In the mechanical level two we have been doing hand fitting which has improved my filing skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • This year being at college has been enjoyable learning new theories and using this to complete assignments. Although this has been enjoyable and can imagine that the next 3 years will be much more enjoyable as i will be putting the skills which i have learnt into practice and developing these.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • So far I have found the programme very well organised, this started from the application process which was the best i had taken part in, my manager regularly checks up on progress and has been available to help me with any theory i have been stuck on. The course is well organised by college as well

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • So far I have found that i have received a lot of support from my employer, I feel i have had more contact with my employer as a full time student than the rest of my class. My boss as also helped with accessing information which i could not get at college.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Our college tutors have given us sufficient enough support, they give us all the relevant information which we need to complete assignments so as long as you take good notes and put the work in i have found the work fine. they also give you resources to look at if you are wanting higher marks on any assignments.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification gives us relevant skills to the work which we would be doing at our actual work, it will give us good working knowledge of the equipment that we are working on. It also has developed our hand skills which we would use daily such as stripping wire and making circuits as well as problem identification tasks.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • As I am at college full time I have not yet been involved in any of these activities at work although it has been mentioned about how they have a five a side inter-company football games which take place weekly which i will hopefully take part in when i go into work.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Britvic to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • They have been very good to me in the first year of working here. Being older i was unsure whether I had missed the chance to get an apprenticeship but Britvic didn't employ people on age and offered me a job. they have great pension and shares schemes and the managers seem very approachable.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Britvic?
  • Put full work into every stage of the application process, do all of the work yourself as it will come back to you if you lie or get somebody else to do your work. With the assessment day be vocal but show that you listen to others and don't be too overpowering. most of all be yourself, i had very limited experience but they still gave me an opportunity which not many big companies like Britvic would do
