My role in my apprenticeship consists of cooking in the kitchen of my workplace's restaurant for paying customers. We make a variety of dishes that are shown on our menu for our customers. I also do daily cleaning jobs in the kitchen to ensure its a clean and safe environment.
I have learnt a lot of skills as this has been my first job. I have learnt to gain confidence and learn how to communicate to co-workers to get the job done. It has also helped me to mature as an individual. I have also learnt how to time keep.
I have enjoyed the programme as it has taught me a lot from both sides, from working and also studying. I've enjoyed watching myself grow and mature and it has really helped me at certain times of my life. I also made new friends from this apprenticeship which I've also appreciated.
My programme has always been organised with my tutors. it has always been structured as I have also had a visit booked in for nearly every month (phone call recently due to Covid). I have had support as well for when I have needed questions answered or when i just need extra support.
I have had very good support from my employer (my boss). If I have had issues or questions he has always been able to help to the best extent he can. I have never felt like I can't ask for help or support with my apprenticeship or any other issue.
I have received good support from my training provider when i need help with working towards my qualifications. If I ever have a problem with my work or study then I know i can ask my tutor and he will help me the best he can. The monthly visits (phone calls) are also really helpful for me to keep on track.
My qualification helps me perform better in my everyday role because it teaches me a lot about how to act and work in a kitchen. It teaches me a lot about information i need to know to work in a kitchen. My study also helps me learn a lot of things i need to know to work safely.
There hasn't been too many extra-curricular activities to get involved in at work due to Covid and social distancing. However before Covid we could socialise as team members by either a special event i.e. someones birthday or special anniversary. Also if there was a training day that would also get us all involved.
Yes
I would recommend Marston's to a friend because I have learnt a lot since joining the company as an employee. I have met a lot of new people since joining and it has been a lot of character building for me. All this while learning from my apprenticeship and also making an earning.
The advice I would give to someone else applying for Martson's is to do the best you can in your job. Try not to get too overwhelmed or upset by either customers or colleagues. Always stay professional and keep a professional face on. As long as you know you are doing the best you can at your job then you will be fine.
