  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Depending on what store your in and who is your manager you can be doing anything from Tills, working stock, training colleagues to cleaning shelves. In the smaller store you are very hands on with the tasks supporting the team to be able to deliver the standards and customer service.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • It is challenging, I have struggled with some of the work due to it generic but my tutors have helped me find a way that it fits in with my company. Once you get a understanding of what they are looking for it has been enjoyable to learn like this.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program is very structured and you start off with the easier topics to help you get into what is required and by the time your at the end you are doing presentations and collecting evidence and feedback of what you can do. The tutors keep you on track with what needs to be achieved in the time frames.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Most of the course work has been done on my own with little need to ask my employer to support. Have been able to do some bits at work but like most company's its too busy to be able to take the full amount of time to do the training just in work.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Lifetime is very helpful. Due to Covid have had to do things differently and had to change trainers at 1 point. Lifetime kept in contact with me constantly and allocated another trainer straight away. Contacting the trainers for any issues or advise is easy and you will get a reply very quickly (I have had replies back in 30 mins).

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that this will give me the confidents that yes I can take that step to the next level of my career. This gives me a qualification that I wouldn't have had before when competing with other managers in the company and may give me a edge over the competition.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Due to the location of the colleagues most reliant on public transport and the time we close the store, afraid not any extra curricular activities at the moment, but we do try and create some team activities specially after this last lock down we are going to try organize bowling team (fingers crossed).

  • 9a. Would you recommend Poundland to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The company as a whole is moving forward at pace and is changing and investing in people like never before. Not just talking about the apprenticeships but other way from little thank you vouchers to colleague of the month even going as far as closing boxing day and new years day!! Which not many retailers can say that any more. These things matter to the colleagues and its great to see Poundland recognizing it.
