  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My day to day role includes supporting my manager and the apprentices in the business whilst also advising existing employees with development opportunities. I action administrative tasks such as raising invoices/PO's and keeping a record of important data.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • 100%. I have learnt so many new skills and improved existing skills since being with The AA. Skills such as communication, professionalism and people skills. I also now have a massive knowledge of the learning and development sector which has helped me realise my future career path. I have learnt to use many new systems and have even expanded my knowledge on basic Microsoft applications. (word, excel, powerpoint)

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme to a great extent. The training provider is amazing and i learn so much through the webinars i attend. Considering it has all been remote due to COVID-19, it has been a beneficial experience already. I enjoy my job role and apprenticeship a lot as it is clear how they link into each other and help me progress in both.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well organised and structured. I had a week of training when i first joined the company to ensure I was comfortable with the role, where they also provided me with a guide for the role and that helped massively. The support i get given from my manager is amazing , she is always helping me what whatever i need, whether it is within work or my apprenticeship.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • A lot of support. My manager is super helpful and helps me through my apprenticeship work. She gives me guidance when I am struggling with how to show evidence or knowledge of how I have met a learning outcome in my assignments. Generally, she also sends me e-cards giving me appraisals which gives me a lot of support. I know i can always reach out to her or her line manager.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider is super helpful! I have my coach who is very supportive and i know i can reach out to her whenever i need to and we have regular catch ups and reviews. She helps me a lot. Not only my coach though, anyone from their shared inbox will help me if my coach may be busy. I always know there is someone to help. I enjoy it a lot.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It definitely helps me perform better within my role. I think if I was in this role within learning alongside it I would not have progressed as much as I have. You can see how they both interlink with each other. I definitely know a lot more from having to research information on my company for my assignments.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes! There are 5 different networks that we have around diversity and inclusion. You can join these and attend regular meetings to talk about how we can improve that certain topic within the company. I am on the Balance Network which is all about gender equality and how we can implement that more in the business.

  • 9a. Would you recommend The AA to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because I truly believe they treat their employees with such respect and fairness. They are very inclusive and do so much for their employees. I have really enjoyed being with The AA, I felt welcomed as soon as I joined. Their apprenticeship scheme is also amazing, they provide so much for their employees but also new starters/apprentices/employees.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to The AA?
  • Take the opportunity! Be yourself within the application process but also make sure you are prepared... research their values and align yourself with them. If it was me just before the interview, I would have liked to been told to 'Relax' as I was so nervous but they made me feel very welcome straight away.
