  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a chef at Browns restaurant in Birmingham. My role is if I start in the morning: open the kitchen- check if all equipments are in a good condition, check the fridge temperature and record it on blue sky, check if the kitchen’s following the food safety and the business procedure, report any issues, check, receive and put away the delivery items ensure that they meet the standards and conditions - keeping the food safety standards and record them in the blu sky. After preparing the kitchen for breakfast: Consult with senior or head chef about the preparation tasks and special menu of the day.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt knife skills, how can I manage my time in workplace, Math and English. I have learnt how to organize the store, the stock rotation, report the invoice in SWS. Handling and storing safely the chemicals. I have learnt about 14 allergies and they symptoms. I have learnt about quality points: egg, fish, shellfish, beef, poultry, vegetables and dry - can food. I have learnt how can you wash your hands. Why important to worn the company’s uniform and why we have a designated area for raw foods.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy this program well, because I can learn more and more new things e.g. Math end English. I enjoy this program because l can learn in my free time so in a day l can care about my family too. I enjoy this program because there are excellent tutors whom can support me and there are a lot of exercises to make practice that improve my skills. There is a virtual classroom and you can do Math and English exercises with a teacher.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My program build up step by step the topics, Math and English skills. So that’s why you can learn from the basic to higher level. There is a several exam after topics and you can see which area need to support or which area is excellent. Every month l have a call with my Tutor and he can ask me what l learnt in a past month, and if I do not understand something he can give me answers or try explain that.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer in 100% support me. If I have a question he can give me a clear answer. If I have a problem about my holiday or if l getting sick he can try to solve it. If I want to learn something new e.g. blast chiller in ‘MABLE’ he can give me a feedback.

  • My Tutor is very supportive and he is available to answer all my questions or when I need help.

  • I feel a learnt a lot of things Which l can use in my day - to day job. E.g see above.
