  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role day to day requires data collation and data cleansing as well as analyzing data and sending off reports to stakeholders, reports are usually requested, so the role requires me to liaise with different teams and departments and effectively communicating at all levels with different employees in order to provide appropriate and correct data that can sometimes be sensitive. I have to follow strict protocols and procedures in my role as i do have to handle sensitive information

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • During Covid - 19 i have managed to improve my skills within the area of payroll as due to the circumstances i have been forced to take on payroll roles as the company has been hit hard by Covid - 19 and needed all the help they could get. Iv'd developed my analysis skills because i have had to learn more about the company's org structure and therefore had to learn different ways of gathering information from SAP system.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the apprenticeship because it allows me to learn equally about all the different parts of HR that i normally wouldn't get the chance to as i only specialize in my job role in one area. It helps me understand the needs of the business i work for more and how i can meet the needs of M&B's various stakeholders. The knowledge i have gained has made me more confident in applying to higher positions after the apprenticeship and seeing a clear path of where i could progress in my company.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I do think although we have the learning pathway online to follow the course in terms of modules and what may be expected of us. However i do sometimes get confused on what i need to do and in what time frame i need to do this in which i clarify this by setting up one to one meeting with my lead tutor so that i am clear on the structure of the course and keep my tutor in the loop also. I do think maybe course tutors could schedule in more meetings with their students apart from the reviews they already do.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I do receive a lot of support from my personal line manager in regards to assignments, such as my line manager reads through my work and tells me what i can improve and gives me feedback personally through Microsoft team meetings. I do think however it has been difficult for the business as a whole to support apprentices because when lock-down one happened we had to put our work on the back-burner to help M&B

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • When i request meetings with my lead tutor and email her, she gets back to me quickly and also plans a meeting for that week so i do think i get quite a bit of support from her and she also lets me know that if i need any help or need extensions on my assignments then she will be here for me, Wendy also checks up with my well being when we have meetings. Other tutors also get back to me if i do not understand questions on some assignments and i need them to clarify.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The knowledge helps me to understand my role better and most importantly the business, it gives me more of a business minded view on how i work in HR and not just thinking about the individual transactions that i do for my team. It gives me a good range of knowledge of HR as a whole and i do feel more confident tackling problems that arise within my department because i know more about it after completing the assignments and doing research.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We do have a Friday Night Social i attend at work every payday Friday, this is a great way to connect with friends at work and also get to know people in other departments and network which is great for building professional relationships with other people in the company. However due to Covid-19 this has been stopped and i haven't really been able to find the time with working and studying to look it other alternative social activities apart from M&B's book club.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Mitchells & Butlers to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The best thing about the company to me is the level of support from the staff that work there and the training opportunities available to everyone. I glad they do an apprentice scheme because it will open up many doors for me in the future. And M&B have a family culture where people you work with feel like close friends and family, before the restrictions of Covid-19 it was a very sociable place where you could meet all different people from all walks of life.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mitchells & Butlers?
  • It is really helpful to have worked in the hospitality industry before and even better if you have worked in the pubs for M&B before because they are more than likely chosing to employee people who have a knowledge of working for a hospitality brand and they like to hire people from their own pubs to show that they as a company like to progress staff. I would also advise someone to be open to starting at a role and moving on to something different within the company as a lot of staff have had that journey.
