  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My day-to-day job involves assisting the experienced engineers in completing intrusive, planned & preventative maintenance schedules, breakdown maintenance across production lines and support processes. As my skills, knowledge and understanding of equipment and production processes develop , I take on more responsibilities to complete tasks independently with a minimal supervision. On occasions, I am involved in improvement projects, interact with contractors on site and communicate with suppliers or machine manufacturers.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • One thing I enjoy about my role is the continuous learning and developing. I've gained a formal qualification at level 3 and now working towards achieving qualification at level 4 while attending the training centre. Apart from the training at the training centre, I've been to internal and external courses such as 18th edition wiring regs, Siemens S7 PLC, working in confined spaces, abrasive wheels training, working in heights, MEWP and others. On a daily basis I use hand tools, power tools, measuring devices, I've learnt how to read and interpret technical and electrical drawings and the emphasis is always on safety at work.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I strongly believe that the apprenticeship is a great way to learn new skills, gained new qualification,progress in the career and receiving an income at the same time. I enjoy working for my company, the company culture and I feel as a part of a team working towards shared goals.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The apprenticeship programme is well structured. I have been given an induction, explaining the training program, the requirements and expectations from my employer. The programme cover various areas of production and manufacturing to gain overall experience and knowledge. Support in the learning and developing process is provided by my supervisor and mentor.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have received a great level of support from my employer on a professional level. My supervisor reviews my progress and performance on regular basis and at the same time I am given an opportunity to raise any issues or concern I may have. My mentors I have been allocated to, support me on the job on a daily basis as a source of inspiration and wisdom.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support I have received from my training provider has been good. My training advisor visits me on site on a regular basis to monitor the learning progress, but also to give guidance and advice on how to achieve set goals and targets. Tutors at the training centre are approachable and always willing to give answers and support the students.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel the theory and basics learnt at the training centre are essential in understanding the engineering principles. Possession of general knowledge of mechanical, electrical principle helps me to stay safe at work, assists in fault finding and completion of the required tasks. I feel the information learnt at the the training centre give me better understanding of my role and the industry.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I believe Britvic offers a great package for its employees. Employees have access to discounted gym membership, discounts on shopping at high street retailers, free education in forms of online seminars, books. The company supports employees in volunteering activities, there are social events such as free Christmas Dinner and Christmas party for everybody. Company operate a social club with activities such as trips to seaside etc.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Britvic is one of the top employers and great place to work. It provides a good overall package for its employees. The apprenticeship is well structured and give you an opportunity to work and learn on state of the art equipment. I believe the industry, the company operates has a bright future and the job is secure. The skills learnt at Britvic are transferable and I strongly believe the successful graduate could easily find a placement on the open market.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Britvic?
  • I would advice all applicants to do little bit of homework before the interview takes place, learn about the company and the industry its operate, have an idea what the future role may be like. I have had a good experience with the application process, the instructions received were clear and given at appropriate times.
