  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am working in L&D in HR. My main job role is to deliver training to frontline teams (face to face and online). I am also aligned to one of the brands in my company so my job is to make sure our teams are completing their training that will enhance guest service.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes! The biggest skill i have taken away is broadening my views. I can confidently share my opinion and thoughts around HR developments. I can contribute better to my team. My writing skills have improved due to writing assignments. Overall i much more confident as a person. And i have recently been promoted.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love the content of it. I wish it was easier to find time to complete my apprenticeship as my job role is very demanding and i struggle to meet all deadlines. I also feel that organisation could be a bit better - maybe an online portal where all documents are stored?

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I would say it is good. Our tutor is very accommodating and supportive. However as previously mentioned, i believe there are areas that could be improved. For example i understand the importance of feedback, but it is not productive to be collecting written feedback after each session plus it is not very environmentally friendly. Plus i think some of the venues that we have used, were not appropriate.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer is very supportive but i think the expectations could be better set out prior to the start around that we should be spending 20% of our time on our apprenticeship. I feel that my workload has not changed so I spent many weekends studying and working on the assignments.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive lots of support and I love the flexibility that this programme offers. My tutor is great and always finds time to answer our questions. Again, i feel some of the modules would have been better delivered and received if the training venues were more appropriate as sometimes rooms are crammed.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It has changed me as a person and as a professional. I feel so much more comfortable to do my research now and set my own opinions on matters. It has also helped to narrow down the path that i wish to take later in my career by both highlighting my strength but also weaknesses.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes! my immediate team is very close so we had plenty of extra curricular activities in the past. For example, running events, football tournaments, we have raised money for the charity. But i do believe there is room for improvement and it would be great to volunteer occasionally as a team.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Mitchells & Butlers to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Mitchells and Butlers has been a fantastic place for me to grow in. They invest heavily in their people and there are always learning opportunities available. Even though the pay is not always great, i think the qualifications i am gaining outweigh that. Also there is lots of flexibility when it comes to working, i have been a mobile worker for the last few years.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mitchells & Butlers?
  • I would advice to be open minded and even if the person has a particular career in mind, there are many different jobs that could open up. I would also advice to take as many learning opportunities as possible and to get involved in the social aspect with our teams.
