  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • - Review quotations from the contractor, preparing comments against the quotations - Responsible for amending and sending out a cross contract summary tracker - Responsible for preparing the monthly payment for the main contractor - Raising shopping carts and requesting for the creation of PO’s - NEC Contract Training - Preparing and finalising final account settlements - Managing existing amounts on PO’s - Assisting with a delay abatement - Raising CPAF’s for smaller works - Assisting with preparing a defect notice - Attendance in team meetings and meetings with the contractor

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • - I can work out progression of works by the contractors point of view - I can review meeting material and be ready to discuss the points being made - I can review quotations and comment on the contractors original comments - I can raise a final invoice to the contractor with subsequent P.O to match for accounts.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • - The programme so far has been very rewarding, im able to study and apply myself in the working environment at the same time. - Sometimes I am able to apply what im learning from work to my coursework. - The work on my current placement has been very rewarding - I have been able to sit down with contractors, discuss the current objectives with my team and absorb all of their knowledge and experience to develop my own understanding of the contract.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • - My programme consists of 7 placements over 5 years - The first 4 placements are for 6 months and the final 3 last 1 year each - I have support staff from the college to aid me with any queries and a head of the QS programme to talk to if I need assistance with TFL related queries.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • - If I require any help with my work, my placement manager is happy to answer any questions. - The head of the programme formally checks up on my progress every 8-12 weeks - The head of the QS programme is available to talk to if I need assistance with TFL related queries.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • - Tutors are available to provide feedback on coursework and answer specific questions, I have about the course. - I have support staff from the college to answer any general queries. - The training provider has a clear and well structured course to achieve the qualification im working towards. - Tutors also provide weekly webinars to provide further clarity of subjects.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • - The college which I attend through Transport for London, provides adequate help with the qualification. - They provide a clear pathway to complete the qualification im working towards - The work and advice they provide, generally helps to prepare me for what to expect in my day to day role as a Quantity Surveyor.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • - From time to time I attend social activities after work - I am yet to sign up to any sports teams or committees - I expect once I have settled in, I will have a look at extra curricular activities. - Im aware of over 20 different committees which I can apply for a role in

  • Yes

  • Transport for London is an amazing company to work for. They provide a excellent opportunity for young people to seek a career in a professional field , whilst obtaining the required degree to do so. There is a great atmosphere in the office and everyone is happy to help you achieve your goals.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Transport for London?
  • - Be prepared for out of the ordinary questions in your interview, the interviewer is looking for certain qualities specific to the role your applying for so just be yourself and answer honestly. - Prepare for hard work and a potential career improving London's Transport! - Everyday millions use our service and you could be part of the team improving and maintaining it.
