  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Assisting Managers and Senior Associates complete tasks (EGAs) in order to efficiently and quickly complete necessary sections of an audit for multiple clients. We were expected to act semi-independently in completing this work but also spent time being coached through these tasks. We would have to complete a variety of jobs relating to audit work in their Asset Wealth Management department

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • A large variety of accounting specific skills were acquired during my time with PwC and I also was able to learn a lot of accounting and audit technical knowledge for many different sections of Asset Wealth auditing. Furthermore, I was able to develop several more generic work-based skills, most notably being my teamwork and communication skills

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoyed the programme greatly, mostly due to the staff being very accepting, patient and understanding of us in our new roles. They helped us through teaching and coaching at any potential opportunity, but also helped us in the social aspect of work, as they allowed me to enjoy my team working with them due to a very friendly environment

    10/10

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very clear and sufficiently organised, with a similar structure each year of the course, with enough time to appreciate and learn while with PwC, and also to allow us to complete the university side of our programme learning. If there was one improvement to be made, it was communication during the programme in relation to university specific tasks while with PwC.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • What I considered the most successful part of the whole programme was this support we received from our employer. Having supportive managers, senior associates and involved career coaches who were all always making sure my personal growth and learning was a key part of my work, allowed this programme to be much easier, enjoyable and useful for me.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Our training provider gave us sufficient support in working towards our qualifications. They always made it clear to us that they were open to supporting us over any issues or problems we potentially had during our placement. They had a very open and friendly attitude and made sure to consistently contact us during our time working so that they could keep up with how we were handling our programme.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My work for my qualification has helped on several occasions within my role on my placement. It is also a key part in letting me understand the conversations within my business environment, as without knowing key parts of the theory I would have been unable to successfully keep up with a lot of tasks within my current position.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Social activities are a crucial and regular part of the PwC work environment, and attendance for new employees to such events is heavily promoted within the company. Weekly social events occur and the social groups are always operating to find new events to do. There is also several training courses and presentations which occur on a regular basis for employees.

  • 9a. Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a very well run and contemporary company which is consistently looking to improve how it treats employees and its general working environment to be as easy to work at as possible. They have a high level of technical and specialist knowledge for the industry which is unmatched by few firms or companies, and makes it the perfect place to learn as a new employee within the industry.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
  • For my particular programme, where people are looking to gain access to the accounting and finance industry through a university degree, I would recommend them to commit to this course over normal courses relating to the area, as it gives a unique and unrivalled opportunity to learn alongside the best in the industry, and to enter into a welcoming learning environment. I would also let them know this means that while you receive the best knowledge and training, they in turn expect the best work and commitment from you, so you must be willing to commit a large portion of your university experience to the PwC firm. However, it will be worth this commitment and once given the opportunity, they should try and integrate themselves into the PwC environment as much as possible, taking advantage of the social and networking opportunities available to them.
