  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a maintenance engineer by day to day role is to carry out preventative maintenance tasks and report to breakdowns. I am currently full time at college completing my Level 3 in Manufacturing Engineering, this will give me the theory knowledge and practical experience that i will be able to use in the workplace.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed multiple different skills including practical and theoretical skills. These include manual manufacturing such as filing, sawing, drilling, tapping and the use of machinery such as the lathe, milling machines and guillotines. Also theoretical skills such as programming plc’s, using mathematical principles to work out engineering problems.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme a lot as the skills that i am learning and working towards are in a field that really interests me. I feel the skills that we will gain will be vital and very useful within the workplace which makes the programme more relatable and interesting. The way the skills are taught and put across make them more interesting and easier to work towards

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure of the programme is very good we have a set timetable and routine so we know what lessons we are going to. The way the assignments are set and organised is consistent across all of the lessons, this makes it easier to keep on top if the work that we are doing and easier to keep track of what grades we are achieving.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We get full support and backing when required, but whilst at college we do not require much support from our employer. We can use the resources that are available at the college to help us or resolve any issues that we have. The employer is there if we need them.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We receive full support from our training providers. They give us all of the right training and material for us to achieve the highest grade we can. The lecturers also give full support with additional work where we need it in order for us to push and fully understand what we are learning and trying to achieve.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel a lot of the skills and practices that we are taught can be used in many situations within the workplace. They teach us vital testing and safety skills which help when completing jobs and tasks in the workplace. The theory we are taught gives us underlying knowledge so that we can understand why we are carrying out certain routines and tasks.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We are currently full time at college therefore we do not have access to any extra activities within the workplace. At college there are multiple extra activities and extra courses which we can have access to in order to further our knowledge and skills. These can include CAD courses and welding courses.

  • Yes

  • They have a great reputation for producing quality products and quality workers. This makes them a great company to work for. They have many employee benefits which are a good incentive to work hard and achieve the goals you are set. They are a great company to work for if you are looking for progression in your job role.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group?
  • I would advise to work hard and stay driven so that you can be as successful as you can. Also to ensure that you constantly push to improve your skills and show that you can improve the business. Also take an interest in the field that you are applying for.
