  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a training deputy manager, whilst performing all the tasks of a store assistant has extra responsibilities such as date checking, merchandising, managing the safe and tills. This entails making sure that all tills and the safe meet the required limits and standards of the business, as well as managing your staff.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed skills communicating with others and within team building. Being a secluded individual, I find it hard to manage people especially as they are older than me, however with this apprenticeship my confidence has grown and now I am able to manage over my colleagues as well as interact between customers.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the feeling that the business basically depends on you individually. Your ability to problem solve is constantly put to the test and as your a big part of how the business is run, it's a great feeling knowing the business depends on you and actually employees you for a need.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I must admit the educational side of my apprenticeship has been extremely difficult, from going bust too changing companys, to assessor to losing an entire work module. However the business and job side of things are extremely professional and organised. They train until you are ready and then your expected to fulfill your role

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Although being a large company aldi us run by the staff in store almost as a family run business. Every colleague checks to see how you are and your store manager constantly catches up with you to see how your doing and sometimes to praise your work. There are posters and helplines everywhere within the canteen if you are struggling

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Not a great deal, I find the questions patronizing and the training provided is simplistic or either doesn't relate to your job role at all yet you are still expected to spend over an hour on the subject? Questions and homework, barely ever make sense and the wording is abysmal.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Not at all, every task I perform or how I approach a task has come from back knowledge from the business, or by me being showed by another colleuge. I feel as if the qualification is useless and the only reason I'm completing it, is just because I have to.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes plenty, in the canteen there is usually something to sign up for with the whole team, from sports things to charity events, to curry nights or even just going out for a drink. There is always something to be done with the team, someone suggests something to do and we plan it

  • 9a. Would you recommend Aldi to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It's a business that actually seems to care about there employees, not only is it a well paid job even for an apprenticeship, but the business looks after you, they know that they depend on you and you are the sole cause for there inevitable success, a a a

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aldi?
  • Make sure it's a job your going to have for a while as they wont particularly be looking for short term work, aldi promotes from within, the longer you are with them the more they will reward you. Make sure you are reliable, being I'll all the time is not a preferred trait
