  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Running an intake & picking shift, overseeing a team of between 10-15 staff members who’s role is to intake all fresh produce & bread products then pick the bread out by headset ready to be delivered to store. I manage staff issues, rota’s, holidays & performance monitoring on a daily basis.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes i have developed my knowledge & skills of managerial techniques. I already have my own managerial techniques but i have learnt more techniques & when to use a specific technique. It has helped me to understand the different managerial techniques & when they need to be used dependant of the type of person or people you are dealing with.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have enjoyed doing some of the work but it has been quite time consuming as my company hasn’t allowed me to do any of the work during my working hours which i am meant to be allowed. On occasions it has meant i have not hit targets to get the work done in time.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is quite well organised and structured. My mentor gives me good advice and plans things well for me. She sets me targets & times to meet to get the work done & she is always there for advice if i have any issues. The only issue is the time i an allowed at work to complete tasks.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Not a lot. It’s good that we have been given the chance to do the course but we haven’t been given the amount of time to do the work in which we are meant to be allowed. All of my work has been completed at home & it’s taking a lot of my personal time up.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I get a lot of support from my training provider in terms of helping me through the process of completing my tasks & doing the masterclasses plus one on one’s with my mentor. Advice and help is always on hand if i need it. The only negative is that the issue of not being allowed to do my 20% in work time has not been resolved.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It doesn’t make a huge difference as i already have my own way of managing people but it has helped a little by giving me more knowledge. It’s hard to change your way of managing when you are used to being a certain way as i think my managerial techniques work well but it has taught me more ways of managing people in difficult situations.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are a few events to get involved in which are mainly organised to raise money for teenage cancer trust. Aldi are trying to raise £5million for teenage cancer trust over 5 years so there are a lot events organised for that. You have to get sponsors to raise money for any activities you do but there are some interesting things made available like jumping out of an aeroplane for example.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Aldi to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because Aldi pay’s good salaries & there is the chance of progression within the company. It’s quite a fast paced environment & can be hard work physically and mentally at times but the rewards are good. All staff are well paid and everyone get a good and fair chance at progressing within the company.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aldi?
  • Prepare well for the interview by enhancing your knowledge of Aldi & be professional in your actions. It always helps to know as much as possible about the company you could be working for and to show an interest in how things are done there. It’s good to be professional in all that you do to show you are serious & willing to work hard.
