  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Working in HR it can vary from admin tasks to data analysis. It can be research and putting together the information I find to use for development one day to taking some info from particular groups and looking at data such as tenure, age, gender etc to see if there is anything that stands out.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes. I have learnt more about how to analyse information in more depth and this has provided me with a new confidence in recognising when things look different or out of place. I also have much more of a concept of financial forecasting than ever before. My manager is very supportive in me questioning things that I feel could be improved.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love my programme, I feel I really get an opportunity to learn in a place where I feel comfortable. My manager is very invested in me and my studies are going well. I am able to learn at my pace which has proved beneficial (I'm not a classroom learner so like to get stuck in)

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel like the programme as a whole is really well structured, the company even provides additional career development opportunities for apprentices a couple of times a year which focus on additional topics. Examples are managing money, mental health, being your best self and we are about to do interviewing skills.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • 110% My manager couldn't be more invested in my career progression. She is supportive to me doing whatever it takes to make sure I get enough exposure. I am confident that if I wasn't lucky enough to secure a role within the company that I will have enough experience to get a role elsewhere.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider has had to outsource the training to another company who can provide the qualification that I wanted to do. I get a lot of support from Northern Skills group and they have given me plenty of support to ensure that I can achieve all I need to and I can't fault them at all.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It gives me a far greater insight into how things work in the background of the company, there is always more going on than you think. It has helped me to expand on what I would call the basics of the role and has improve my confidence within my work.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I have attended team events within the HR function. I have taken part in 2 apprentice events so far where I have learned a lot. I have taken 3 days to complete charity work when my company is paying me and this has pushed me to do more. They also covered the costs for me to attend the CIPD conference which was a great development opportunity.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Sage to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because they're ace :-) On a more serious note, I genuinely feel like the programme is more than just a qualification, it is giving me the things I need to put my best self forward and start thinking more about my career development opportunities. I'm looking at things differently!

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Sage?
  • Don't be too nervous, the assessment centre for interviewing had me worried sick but it wasn't half as scary as I thought it would be. Get the most out of the experience and don't be affraid to ask questions, you need to know that the company is right for you too!
