  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a section leader for the ambient department for Aldi at the Atherstone rdc. I am responsible for between 30/40 members of staff depending on busy periods. My responsibilities are managing performance, attendance and accuracy. My team is responsible for selecting ambient products for aldi stores of which we currently have 98 and this is picked on days.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have been on a number of training courses over the years within my role at aldi where I have learned a lot about myself and how others see me depending on how I act, this course has a lot of the same type of courses I have been on in the past but it has been a good reminder of the things I have learnt previous.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am enjoying the programme but with a busy schedule and a busy family life I sometimes struggle to find time to get the work completed. Saying that, once I do find time and get stuck in to it I am finding it interesting and have a sense of achievement once the work is completed.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • At first myself and my colleagues who are also on the course found it hard to get to grips with what we were supposed to be doing and where to find the information we needed to complete the work. We all said it would be better if everything was all in one place and not having to switch from one thing to another to complete tasks.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I personally have a lot of support from my direct leader. I am allowed to complete tasks in works time as long as I don't fall behind with my work and it doesn't affect deadlines and targets I am set. Having colleagues who are also on the programme is helpful as we can discuss things to do with the different topics.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider is always at the end of the phone or if she is on site we can always grab 5 minutes to discuss something if we are unsure about something. I haven't had to have much contact with her as yet apart from when we have had an arranged meeting.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It gives you extra tools to use in managing different situations if they occur like a difficult conversation with a member of staff. You learn about different management styles to deal with all situations. It helps with working on your own or as part of a team if in a debate type scenario.

    8/10

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Aldi is the main sponsor for teenage cancer trust and with that there is a number of fund raising events to get involved in. Last year myself and a few other members of staff did a skydive and this year we are taking part in the 3 peaks challenge which is at the end of May.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Aldi to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I have worked at Aldi for 15 years and I feel that it is a good company to work for. I along with my colleagues are living proof that if you work hard and put the effort in you can achieve anything. I started as a selector and got promoted to deputy and then section leader.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aldi?
  • The type of person we are looking for to come and join our team is someone who will turn up on time, on the day they are supposed to be in and put in a good days work. If you have a good work ethic and good attitude to others you will fit in.
