  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Day to day running of the business and managing a team of 40. I will great guests and ensure they have an amazing experience. I will help cook and clean if needed. Complete business planning with my team. Make sure rotas are correct and complete. Drink and food orders as well as helping the rest of the area wherever possible. Every day is different and a new challenge.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many new skills over the past few years, from how to use the new systems and handheld tills. I have honed my skills around communication and influencing people, helping push the skills of my team offer opportunities and growing my team to be the best they can be.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme is excellent. I have really had the opportunity to re learn some of the skills that I have forgotten over the years. I have met some really great people and the trainers I have are very supportive, know their stuff and are always on the end of an email if I need anything

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is very organised. I received my programme for my skills days and webinars well in advance - right at the start of the programme. The monthly Skype calls with my trainer are planned in advance and flexible if needed and well structured with some great subject matters and feedback to follow.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer supports my programme with regular catch ups around the subject I am currently studying. They are allowing me time each week to complete my coursework as well as time off for my skills days when they are scheduled in. I am very grateful of the support from Mitchell’s and butlers with my programme

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I am currently 4 months into my programme. My training partner is there every step of the way to keep me on track and help me out with any problem areas I encounter. They are there at the skills days to support and assess as many relevant skills as they can

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Although I am still early into the programme I have already seen some remarkable changes in the way I assess situations at work, and how I deal with my team on a day to day basis. It has made me and my team more positive and driven to surpass the previous targets set

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We have no specific extra curricular activists available to us. But we can add extra training and courses to outlet role if this is something we would like to do. We can meet up with our peers outside of work and network, but otherwise the networking we do is with the local community

  • Yes

  • Mitchell’s and butlers is a company that has a great vision and drive to succeed. And to do this they want to take the whole team on that journey. They understand the importance of developing your people and supporting that journey and will be there to help personally if that would be required


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mitchells & Butlers?
  • Be confident in yourself and your skills. Mitchell’s and butlers are looking for individuals that will bring their own personality and outlook to the roles to really enhance the guest experience. It doesn’t matter what level you are applying for within Mitchell’s and butlers- we’re all here to give the same great experience.
