  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role as an FS2 involved taking responsibilities for areas I've been assigned and making sure those areas are completed. This would entail discussions with the client, coaching from my in-charges on areas I'm not sure of and at time coaching junior members on areas I've experience in.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Definitely! The learning curve on this job is very steep. You learn a lot from technical accounting and audit knowledge, to being part of team dynamics, dealing with clients and even learning advanced excel skills, all form part of your learning experience. The managers make sure you receive constant feedback so you can improve on certain areas.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • As for teams, it depends from client to client, you get along with almost everyone all the time. It is also rewarding when you get along well with client members too which makes getting stuff by them a lot more easier. The company culture is extremely positive. There are office socials every month in addition to outdoor activities once a quarter. Also depends on the social group you're put in, mine had weekly breakfast meeting and chats too.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is extremely well structured and spreads out your workflow evenly. As studies are done in the first term of Uni, and the placement the next, you get to apply the knowledge from uni at work and then once placement finishes, you get to apply your work experience in your exams which is highly coveted.

  • The degree programme at university is tailored to meet the requirements of ICAEW & PwC. This tailored approach preps you for the things you will counter at work. Moreover you get to put your theories to test once you finish your first term and move on to placement. This helps you perform better at work than peers who haven't gone through this route.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, I regularly took part in office socials, we had yoga sessions every week. There also was a group activity where we spent the evening at Ghetto golf( a mini golf course), we also had group quizzes and group breakfasts. • 9a. Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • PwC is a great place to kick-start your career, they opportunities offered are numerous, you can always switch to other types of work or even jobs entirely within PwC if you're not satisfied with what you're doing. The intense learning curve really sets you out as a professional from early on.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
  • Be honest in your application and be yourself, PwC appreciates diverse backgrounds and different experiences you may have. The interviews are more like discussions rather than interviews where you get to ask questions as well as answer a few. The on-board process is quite straightforward. Everything you need to do will be set out clearly and if you're not sure, there's always someone to help you with it!
