  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I was involved in the audit of many clients and worked in teams that varied greatly in size, from job to job. I would report to my senior who would coach me through various testing and disclosure related activities, which then allowed me to work independently and make a positive impact on the audit.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • The most significant skills that I have learned is how to write professional emails. By the end of my placement, I was able to communicate independently with the client, and our delivery centres, with minimal help. I have also built upon my accounting knowledge, and can now confidently navigate my way around the accounting software provided.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme thoroughly - we are provided with a copious amount of support from not only PwC, but also the University and ex-Flying Starts. All Seniors and Managers are more than willing to coach us through difficult work, which made the settling in process seamless and much more enjoyable.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well structured. From the outset, we are given a clear view of how the course works, when exams will be, when placement will begin/end, and how it all ties together. Even while on placement, the University stay in regular contact with us and give us reminders and tips on how to prepare for the upcoming exams.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We receive a great amount of support. The University team prepare us well for the placement and provide us with all the necessary contacts before we begin. When starting placement, we are introduced to our Champions, Buddies, Career Coaches, as well as our soon-to-be Managers. Everyone is more than willing to answer any question we have - big or small - and we are comfortable in the knowledge that the University team are still able to provide additional support, even while on placement.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We get the majority of our help from the University, with the occasional talk from ICAEW. The University structures our programme in a clear and concise way which answers many of the questions we have. We have a variety of email contacts to use, as well, so there is always someone to contact when needed.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Since starting placement, I have noticed my performance improve greatly. I am able to make correlations between the work I learn at University, and the work performed at PwC. This has made me much more confident and has allowed me to work much more independently in the role. Having a lecturer who is a fully qualified Chartered Accountant is greatly beneficial as he is able to give us a great insight into the work.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are many opportunities out there, if you are willing to participate. I joined the PwC netball team and met so many lovely women. An email circulates monthly, which allows people to join a variety of sports and activities. Charity events are regularly promoted, and there is a great sense of community amongst the office.

  • 9a. Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I have learned so much since joining the programme and made so many friends, from all stages of life. This programme is the perfect link between education and the working the world. The amount of support that we receive makes the transition into working life much more comfortable, and it has made me very excited for the future.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
  • Join with an open mind to meet new people and learn as much as possible. There are so many opportunities available which should not be missed. Hard work is rewarded and the course is so much more enjoyable when you embrace the sense of community - both at University, and at PwC.
