  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I run shifts in store and help coach and manage the team. On a grander level I act as a mentor to the team members who require it while also effectively guiding the store towards achieving goals. I have to have a mind for the business and also for the people within it so that they can coincide in peace, and to ensure that the needs of both are met.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt new ways in which to interact with my team, and greater understanding of different levels of business and how it is a huge part of a successful store. I have learnt how to train my team into understanding on a level how being aware of the business is able to benefit them. I have also learnt different styles in leadership that work more effectively on different types of people, so encourage the best response.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • My trainer was wonderful and I looked forward to our sessions, she never made the learning tedious and was always a joy to talk to, I felt supported and that made doing this course far more enjoyable. My team members that are now also working with her also enjoy her sessions and rave about how at ease she makes you feel.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I found the program was structured fairly well, however I found the e-learning platform difficult to navigate at time. Also when going through gateway it felt like it was structured in theory, but not so much in practice, I was fortunate as to lose my examiner before I had met him, and he was instantly replaced with a lovely woman who was reliable. But a friend of mine had far less luck.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My manager was very supportive of my being on the course, and infact openly supports all of the team who wish to receive similar training. She went out of her way to ensure I went through the end process without any hiccups or interruptions during my presentation. She’s already put me on the next course

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My trainer was always only an email, text or phone call away if I needed her, I was fairly stubborn and didn’t ask for help often, but once my training was complete and I was in gateway she regularly checked in on how I was doing and wished me luck for all of stages I went through.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that taking this program on so early into my management role has helped me shape the way I work in a much more professional way. I am able to interact with my team better, make bigger decisions with greater confidence. And personally I feel that I can be more effective because I’m not trying to ‘fake it till you make it’ I am showing true leadership skills.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Our company holds charity events for our teams to attend, such as football, community work etc.. however these aren’t very frequent. I’m also not sure how many team members would be interested in these kinds of events if they were more often. But it’s an interesting concept to consider.

  • 9a. Would you recommend KFC UK & I to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • KFC May be frowned upon by some as work that isn’t hard, Which is on no account true. Despite of this KFC works to develop and look after its employees. Great love is shown to those who show love to the company. KFC is one really big weird family.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KFC UK & I?
  • ignore the negative opinions about working in ‘fast food’ the work can be fun. The people a usually bonkers, but great to work with, and they will be a second family to you. It’s not a dead end job, the opportunity’s that you can be given are amazing, promotions, and qualifications. There’s more to it than you’d think.
