  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I support the front office advisors with client related admin issues. This can involve basic tasks such as updates to client profile/ mandate or making payments for a client. I also support other advisor assistants with their daily tasks and this is what I work towards becoming at the end of my apprenticeship.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I feel I have developed skills that I already had, I just did not use them as much as being in a corporate environment e.g. communication skills as to how to present and communicate to different colleagues depending on their business role and level. Having to communicate to another apprentice helping them out is different to communicating to the head of your segment trying to get them to approve a task

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the programme that I am currently on as I feel I have fast tracked myself into a front office role by avoiding university. I know that once I finish my apprenticeship I will be able to work my way up within this company to the role in which I want to work in long term.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The Programme is very well structured as we have three different types of structure. We have the internal support we receive from HR . Then we have our training provider for our exams which help support and organize days of study where they teach us our course. We then have our apprenticeship provider who support us with all our apprenticeship related work

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • explained in the question above - employer does also help within the segment which we work in e.g. line manager as they have monthly catch ups with us just to keep up to date in regards of the apprenticeship programme and how we are developing over the course of this

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • as explained in the previous question - they organize study days where a representative comes in for either one or two days (or we go to an external office) and they teach us the course structure within this period. Very helpful and I feel I would struggle with learning the course by myself with out this

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • the qualification helps due to I am learning about the financial economy, products and services banks offer as well as the rules and regulations in which all apply to my day to day role. they both correlate with each other and each day my knowledge would increase due to exposure in the office which I can apply to my learning of the knowledge for my exam or my learning helps with my understanding of the role I work in

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • me and another two apprentices (one has now graduated) have started and attempting to set up a rugby network / team for our company to encourage sport within the bank. Also I try to attend as many networking events internally and externally which may occur as I feel this can enhance my knowledge on the industry plus the networking side of this all helps

  • 9a. Would you recommend UBS to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • UBS is a great place to start your front office financial career in terms of support you receive from internal perspective. I feel at UBS they also prepare you to develop for the next role you will be. Plus they are also supportive in future development e.g. after apprenticeship continuing the professional development through more qualifications as an example

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to UBS?
  • Be yourself. UBS support everyone applying and one of their main points is integrity, which becomes a massive point for everything you are measured against. others are collaboration, so be willing to be able to try your best with any situation you are put in especially with starting in the front office collaborating with new teams.
