  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Every day is different, but some of the routine tasks would be; complying with internal risk procedures for new projects or compliance services, carrying out tax compliance in excel or internal software; writing emails to overseas teams to coordinate tasks; managing data by setting up folders and making everything accessible to other team members.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Absolutely, the skills which I have improved are; time management, analytical skills, Microsoft Word skills (especially excel) and many others. The new skills are; technical capabilities which include using various software to analyse data, tax skills for which we get plenty of resources to learn from and many training sessions.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The team is very nice to new joiners and I felt like a part of the team very fast. There are many groups which we can join, such as religious groups etc. PwC has made many events which allow us to get to know everybody, these include lunches/dinners, pub quiz and others. My expectations were partially exceeded. I enjoy it very much. The work is also enjoyable at times.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is well organised as we get a lot of on job experience and lots and lots of training which definitely helps our future development and career in tax. A lot of support is available, whether it being from your colleagues or internal resources. Not many days at college for exam training.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • A lot of support, whether it be from you career coach (manager), colleagues or your "buddy" (a school leaver who has been in the firm for more than 1 year). Guidance is good, but haven't had many problems so hard to say. Attitude towards supporting me is very positive, especially when it comes to technical queries.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Not many days at college, but a lot of resources online plus study material which we were given at first day. Online support is easily accessible but could have a few more days at college. Also, would be nice if there were past papers online. Attitude is good. I'm enjoying it at some points but can get quite intense.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The teaching we get provided definitely helps with general tax work at PwC but not so much for deals and real-estate (which is the team I am in). It makes me more confident at work and gives a very good understanding of the tax world. I have used some of the gained knowledge.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Most definitely, there are many sports group activities, such as, football, basketball, rugby etc. We also have challenges such as steps challenge (pretty self explanatory) which allows you to win £250. We have many social activities in our peer group such as golf, darts and ping-pong. These events make PwC not just a workplace.

  • 9a. Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • PwC will give you a very good start to your career and they care about your development as much as you do. On job experience and a professional qualification is a great combination to give your career a head start and you will learn loads which can take you very far.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
  • Have good A-levels or equivalent. Be confident and follow the PwC values/skills we look for. (Leadership, Technical capabilities, global acumen, Relationships) Be and show that you are proactive. Take up all the opportunities. Have a good understanding of what the firm does and especially the sector you will be working in.
