  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is to help other colleagues supervise their firms. I do this by attending meetings (both contributing and taking the notes), help members of the team add documents onto our online tracking systems and help to create agendas and briefing notes. I also do my apprenticeship learning on a day to day basis which involves missions and learning the content for the professional qualification

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since becoming a level 3 compliance and risk apprentice at the FCA I have learnt how to use different systems that I had never even heard of before I started her. This has allowed my to develop my IT skills and create new ones. I have also deepened my understanding of general insurance which is really helpful in my job role.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • At the moment my programme is very enjoyable. I am currently completing my first mission and learning my professional qualification content. I think I enjoy my programme even more as my team are so understand that I need time to do my apprenticeship work which allows me to get on with what I need to do without the stress of upsetting my team.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • At first the programme information was given to us as apprentices very well which was a bit concerning. But now the programme has officially started everything is laid out in a document with deadline and launch dates. That document is very useful as it means that everything is together. The structure is good as everything is now clearly laid out.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My manager is very supportive when it comes to doing my apprenticeship work. He understands that I have deadlines and will try to give me less things to do around my deadlines. When I first joined the company so much training was put on which has really helped my development which is great support.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I feel as if my skills and development coach has been really helpful throughout my qualification so far. I do not feel as if I have to hesitate to email her or pick up the phone as she is really understanding. Jo always answers emails within a reasonable length of time and if there's any concerns or confusion she'll always pick up the phone.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • As I have only just begun my qualification I don't think I have much to comment on this only because my qualification has only just started. But so far, I feel as if my Mission 1:Personal Development has really helped me in my role already as it has reminded me to keep up to date with legal and regulatory changes.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • At my work we regularly have team lunches and outings. We have previously gone to burger and bowling and have axe throwing in the diary. I really enjoy doing things with my team as it allows for team bonding and allows the team to get to know each other better. the FCA also do social activities as a company and these are advertised in the social newsletter

  • 9a. Would you recommend FCA to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Personally, I would recommend the FCA to a friend as everyone is really friendly and welcoming. As this was my first proper job I was very nervous but coming to the FCA on the first day wiped that feeling as everyone was so nice to me and really understanding. Also, both the location and building are great!

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to FCA?
  • A tip that I would give to someone applying for an apprenticeship at the FCA would be to be as open as possible in your interview. In your interview you should try and be as chatting as possible and try to ask the interviewer about themselves too. Also, remember to do some research around the FCA before you apply so you definitely know that this is where you want to work.
